What sounds attract crows?

I just got a Foxpro and there are sounds of other birds in distress, etc. on it.  Will any of those attract crows or will only the crow sounds attract crows?

Thanks from a Newbie!

Trip,
I've had crows respond to nearly all types of game calls. They come to wounded rabbits, chicken distress, and many more. They are a very curious species, and anything unusual will interest them... ONCE. You probably won't be able to fool them more than once unless you're using a variety of high quality crow sounds.
Good Luck!

Thanks Matt. This is the list Foxpro gave me for crows.

crows
dying crow
crow fight
ranting red bird
titmouse
lucky bird
blue jay distress
raven duet
magpies
wacky woodpecker
raspy woodpecker

I asked them to give me 10 crow sounds (out of 50). Would you consider these (except the first 3) crow sounds? They have many more crows sounds on their list. Not sure why I got the last 8 I listed.

I need to call Foxpro today and let them know so any input would be appreciated.

Thanks.

That does not look like a good list to me,I would take all of the Crow sounds that FoxPro has but none of those bird sounds .The only bird sounds, that work for me,(stand alone no crow sounds inbedded ) are the hawk screams, and owl sounds. The Raven duet will work sometimes,if you have ravens around. Crows are very territorial, thats why other crow sounds work so well.smile Some of the bird sounds could work in run and hunting in the summer when crows are raiding song bird nests, but I just use crow distress sounds with hawk and owl sounds.no

Thanks Shanedog. I just talked with FoxPro and they sent me the rest of the Crow sounds since they know they didn't give me the ones I wanted. You pay a lot for their products but the service I have gotten from them has been a 10+ so far. You usually don't get that kind of service from anybody these days. If you ever call them ask for Jarrod.

Going out Friday morning to try my Mojo Critter and Foxpro Storm and see if I can call up any coyotes. :o) Then maybe some crows.

Oh yes. I got 50 sounds and told them to mix it up for crows, bobcats, coyotes, and racoons. They gave me a good assortment. They even have snowshoe rabbits in distress and when I said we don't have them in Alabama they said it didn't matter that they just go by the distress sound. Also the same sounds should work for bobcats and coyotes.

I will be using an AR15 with Aimpoint red dot but have a new Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14X40 but am waiting on a Burris P.E.P.R. Scope Mount 1" to get in stock. They have been out of stock for a few weeks. My eyes need the magnification after about 100 yards. I can shoot a 6" group at 100 yards but that is it.

Nice set up SD.

I've got a DDM4 AR15 (Daniels Defense) with Aimpoint CompML3 and just found the Burris mount and hope to have it by this weekend so I can sight in my Nikon. I've never been but hope to set up on a field and see what happens with the Mojo.

Trip,

Depending on the type of crow hunting you are doing (run & gun, field shooting or flyway shooting) also is a major factor on what calls to choose from. Some calls you can use in all three types of gunning.

For example:

In run & gun where you move around a lot I would recomend my fighting call, distress call of a baby crow, excited crow call and distress call of an adult crow. The crows will come into these calls on the double!

For field types of crow hunting I would recomend my come here call and recognition call, this will bring the birds in leisurly.

For flyway hunting the fighting call is a proven crow killer, you can see me using all of the differen't fight calls in the two dvd's that I made over the past 9 years. One is called "Crow Shooting" and the other is called "The Art of Crow Hunting" both are sold right here at CrowMart the store! Look under Educational Material to find them.

If you are a run & gunner it sure can't hurt to learn to use a hand call very well! CrowMart has some great deals, by that I mean that they have some very good hand calls for sale. Mincey, Gibson and Mallardtone to name a few. They also have a package deal where you can buy one of there hand calls and it comes with an instructional cd so you can learn what the differen't calls mean to the crows!

Shanedog, if you shoot at one and miss how long before you can call him up again? Are they like crows in that you'll have to wait a while?

Bob,

Field Shooting is all I know to do right now. I don't have any flyways near me from what I can see. I bought 9 flocked decoys and have a method to get some in the trees. I may check out your videos. I thought about paying fora crow hunt to learn from but the price I was quoted is more than I would pay someone to duck hunt.

Thanks for sharing your experience with me about the different ways to hunt and calls to use for each one.

I'll have to try this out. It sounds like a good recipe for a fun hunt!
