Well, a disasterous morning. First when setting up found "someone" who helped me put the decoys away last times, had pulled them out of the ground by the decoy, and not by the stake, and the result was spent an extra 90 minutes setting up due to having to fish the loose spring heads out of the decoys and reattach them to the stakes.
Then thought I had 150+ shells with me, but two boxes were empty, and two boxes were old GB6 in 32 grams, so almost ran out of shells as the GB6’s were missfiring and hang firing, so lots of missed birds with those (missed the first three flights due to the extra 90 minutes anyway)
In the end had two boxes of GB4 in 36 gram, and a load of reloaded Eley first 7.5 in 28 gram
So packed up for the morning on 50+ retrieved, and 20+ glider/runners. Should have been well over 120+
Will be back out later (just charging whirly battery, and refilling with cartridges), and then have another field to hit tomorrow morning too

With all the gear you've described and from your previous adventures I've read, you need a pre-flight checklist--esp. if you are at or about my advanced age .

this was my bag from this morning. 54 crows recovered, 1 pigeon recovered, 27 crow and 2 pigeon not recovered (glided on to next fields, or ran into hedges)
And you call that a bad morning! Around here results like that would warrant a parade and a !

Lol, had all gone well, would have had 200+ birds.
last few days they gave been mowing silage EVERYWHERE, and as a result, birds are field hopping at the slightest, as the have lots choose from. Today on a field that had 500+ crows and 100+ pigeons on it yesterday, and today absolutely nothing.
By 09:00 I had 7 crow, plus 2 feral pigeon retrieved, and 1 crow glider, a crow runner, and 2 feral pigeon runners
going back this afternoon in the hope it changes for the better

Only twice have I ever run out of ammo while the crows were still flying. The first time was with my 20 gauge model 12 Winchester. I fired 632 rounds of skeet loads in 8's and shot 410 crows. If I had more ammo with me there is no telling how many more could have been taken that day.
The second time was also with the model 12 in my early years of crow hunting. I had roughly 500 rounds with me and thought that would be more than enough........ WRONG ! I was out of ammo by 11:15 A.M. that morning.

Hello 5065,
I knew I did not have enough ammo midway through the hunt so I made my shots count as best I could. I shot over 400 crows that morning but could have easily shot a couple of hundred more had I had more ammo with me.

I applaud anyone who is dedicated enough to actually go out and shoot crows on purpose, regardless of how many they kill. Just remember tho, "He who stops to count dead crows misses out on the families, friends, and pall bearers who show up for the funerals!"

Apparently the crows learned too! The field I was in was absolutely nothing to worry about -see-I missed far more than I hit! Must have seen 300 crows that day that year killing only 14 and thought I was good! I was "good" alright according to the crows!
I eventually learned where they spent their winters too but at the time very useless information!
