Thoughts on Gun Buying
Permalink

I was thinking about the topic on buying new shotguns, and I would like to see gun manufactures put on events where you can try out the guns they make, seems to me they could sell  a few more guns. To me just handling a gun in a shop will not answer the things I need to know. I seek advice as 8fisherman is and try to narrow my choices but then it would be great to shoot a round of clays with the gun. Some may already be doing this but not here in Alabama that I am aware of. It would give us gun nuts something to do in the off season and promote shooting sports. To spend a few bucks on their ammo and clays and get a feel of the guns would be helpful to me when I am looking at guns from 500 to 2000 dollars of hard earned cash.

Just my thoughts,

Butch

You are right but i think once a gun leaves the shelf it gets devalued-I don't know...around here you buy it and then try it with the option of bringing it back..

A friend of mine just broke ground today on one of the nicest ranges in the United States. This is in Wichita Kansas on Greenwhich road. You can try guns "before you buy them at this location" He will even have a special range for SWAT and Special Forces guys! You can even shoot some of the rifles in full auto! But you have to have a special permit to buy one of those.

Bob,

Hope that inspires some folks in Bama to do the same here .

Motiondecoy,

Some dealers will sell and let you bring it back here but only to trade on another gun and you will lose some money, that's better than nothing, but I was wanting manufactors to let us try some Demo's before I buy. Sounds like Bob's friend will do well  and I hope this type of gun store makes it down south.

Hi Butch,

The news media was there, perhaps they will have a story later on Face Book. It's called Thunderbird Tactical, they sell rifles, pistols, revolvers, and shotguns. He will have 12 indoor pistol & rifle ranges, as time goes on he will have a clay bird layout so you can try the shotgun model before you buy it.

Butch, at his old location he said that Obama is the reason gun sales are so good. He does over $ 30,000 a month just on firearms alone at his old location. The new location will take 8 months to complete. He had a lot of law enforcement and military people there plus hunters!

Gun sales went through the roof here thanks to Blowbama. One dealer had to back order those star wars semi automatics. In fact all types of firearms( non class 3 or any other gun)were going out the door....used or new!
I would like to point out too how many know exactly what an "arm" is? Truth is everyone thinks it means firearms-it does but not ONLY fire arms. you can be "armed" with anything , thusly you went "armed' but some things that could be used as an "arm" is not generally recognized as an "arm"....so next time you see where fire arms are not targeted in any legislation on the books or proposed-consider just exactly does "armed' mean?
The Right to keep and bear arms was said just like that not necessarily as an act of legislative formality but just what it says...whatever you go armed with is your RIGHT under the 2nd amendment. The 2nd amendment INCLUDED guns but it also defined your right as a responsible citizen to go "ARMED".
Yet look at the laws on the books? Certain knives and clubs or martial arts weapons are "illegal" to be carried and or other types of possible weapons!
How many times have any of you had to ward off troublesome wildlife(skunks , racoons or what have we where ever you are) with rocks or sticks? At that point in time you became ARMED.

Thats been the talk here Obama has sold more guns and ammo than anybody, hope your Friend has great sucess and then opens one in Alabama, On that note Remington is opening a plant in Huntsville and Creedmore Sports moved to Anniston from California and we are hearing of more that are moving to more gun friendly states.

Hoping to get up to Nebraska in Nov. for some bow hunting and this time travel slower and see more of your State, the 20 hr straight drive days are over, Let me know of any must see's for an ole redneck southern boy.

Butch,

If you are anywhere near Hutchinson (and I am home at the time) feel free to stop for a visit.

We have several ranges here of which I shoot at two of them. I ask a friend there to shoot his Beretta Teknys and he obliged. Most people I know will jump at the offer to show off one of their own beloved pieces by allowing you to shoot it. In most cases, it is taken as a complement to the owner that you would consider buying a gun like the one he has. This is a little different when dealing with custom guns. Some have finely adjusted triggers and such. Ask if the owner has any specific wishes as to how to handle their gun. One friend let me shoot his fully customized .45 on the condition I put no pressure on the trigger with the safety was on. It was his belief that a great trigger could be turned into a mess if it was pulled hard while the safety was on.

Skeetshooter just bought a demo gun from a Kolar rep. It was one he carried to shoots to let people try it out. You are more likely to find a rep that will let you shoot one than a store owner. The demo guns go up for sell when the next best thing comes out and these demo guns can often be had at deep discounts.

Good luck
