Quote from MOTIONDECOY yesterday (18 AUG), “When it's hot out they tend to stay near water…” confuse

Well, I decided to do a “quickie” setup this morning at the location of Sunday’s church picnic because I had to get away quickly due to an appointment out of town. The location is at a church member’s property. He’s developing it for residential use and it has—a good sized pond. So, given all the food particles that a couple of hundred people would leave after a picnic and the fact that I’ve almost always had successful crow hunts there (also my first ever deer last SEP), it seemed worthwhile to try a quick setup. No blind needed as it’s nicely landscaped with a clump of 25’-30’ conifers of different types leaving a nice hiding place—complete with Porta-Johns! smile

Just like always, (Just like I was whining about NOT happening in Saturday’s posting “Zip, Zilch, Nuttin) I fired up the Spitfire just as I heard the first crows waking up and in a few minutes played Crow Fight.” Right on cue, three stormed in and one stayed behind. These are educated crows, so I know it would not be so productive to hang around too long. I was hoping the feral pigeons would circle close by but no such luck. Did see an osprey working the pond with some nice dives. So, MOTIONDECOY’s suggestion worked just fine.biggrin

I think I’ll come back with the .22 for some of those pigeons.

salutes! If you shoot a pigeon or a crow with a .22 try to hit them in the chest or head ...they can absorb a lot of punishment...

Everything I'v e ever shared on here is from personal experience and I am not trying to look like a big shot or anything. i read the books by Bert Popowski and Dick Mermon and have found them to be right in almost every situation. When I run into a problem dealing with crows i refer to their books and often find the answer I seek!
But I emphasize I have seen first hand whatever i shared...but I do follow Dick Mermons' book as much as i can(Crow Shooting Secrets)
and I killed more crows as a result than I otherwise would have! However do to the changed conditions in this area(The monadnock region) the only things I kill these days here is time and tv dinners!

The crows would be out on the highways and backyards in early morning and later moved to the swamps especially where there is plenty of berries nearby ....that is the way it used to be  around here.
