Never a bad day

Despite my whining a couple of posts ago about getting no action at all, today wasn't all that bad. Set up in the moonless dark, at a familiar location that was almost in a tunnel between the trees and the tall corn. Not very good visibility for me or the crows. First call brought in three that took a couple of passes at 45-50 yards. I took two shots but no kills. Nothing more after that. Oh well. Good news was (1) that there was a downpour at home about 6 miles from here and I saw no rain--got lucky, (2) the minor equipment modification of adding a *custom-designed "Model 12 holder" worked nicely, and (3) when it was time to give up, had coffee with the landowners who are old friends. So (like the fishermen say) any day spent hunting is a good day. However, I need to find some mentally-challenged crows pretty soon...)

*Heavy insulated wire passed through holes drilled in the PVC; bend to fit. No-brainer, but it solved a problem.

OA--they will be to you sooner than expected I'd predict. Decent numbers are starting to accumulate about 100 miles north of you. Probably 3 weeks ahead of schedule would be my best estimate

Sure hope they get here quickly! That would be very welcome, as such activity usually happens during OCT, after the season ends! Big Honkers and I have both observed the OCT movement.

Going to try again this weekend once or twice. Sure hope I find some of those uneducated bandits.

OA,

You tell it like it is, good, bad or in between. That's not whining to me. I enjoy your posts and the ideas you share, Thank's.
I liked the Mod. 12 too.
Sounds like they are headed your way, hope you put em on the ground!
