Pecan Hunt (Windy)

Had a good morning hunt, first group of 5 to 7 came overhead at 20 ft with a tailwind and zipped by, all we did was shoot where they had been! New right away if they did this all a:m we were in trouble. Things settled down and crows decoyed well and some just committed suicide flying into the wind, still had a bunch use the wind and make us look bad (lol). Some of the fastest crows weve had the pleasure of missing! Did some hitting to, we had a triple and several doubles, Son had a hot gun most of the a:m, birds started getting higher and He changed chokes and went stone cold on 10 or so birds that He normally  smokes. Still had a good hunt, wound up picking up 75 and lost another 10 to 15, not trying to claim those but I know they didn't live, we hurt their feelings real bad (lol). I will post pic's and the peanut pics from last week, have to get them off phone tomorrow, just to tired now, left home at 1:30a:m and got back at 2:30 p:m. A great time with my Son bustin Crows!

Hey Butch,

That is some great bonding with your son, plus you shot about 13 limits if you were hunting greenheads!

I like shooting them going with the wind if they are coming one at a time. It usually happens when I see one coming from the back side of the blind. Dick & I were pass shooting some crows a number of years ago that were riding a 20 mph breeze, that is sporty shooting.

I will be looking for your photos.

Butch, nice blind, reminds me of mine.

I just loaded 2,500 12 gauge trap loads into the bed of the 4x4 pickup. As soon as I hear the first crow squack I'm ready to roll.

Butch,

Nice pictures and hunt. Thanks for sharing. Looks like you are using some BoonDocker decoys. I think I should get a dozen of those for places I need to walk in to hunt.

BH,

They are BoonDocker's and so far we have been well pleased, still use some full body's in the trees, they clean up well and save a lot of space, set up time still about the same as full body's but you have more options on the way they sit. I believe if you get them you will use them on all the hunts you go on. Thanks, we are gettin to prime time down here on pecans and have been fortunate to pick up some good orchards, and you know any crow hunter could have killed a bunch on this orchard we shot. We still got a lot to learn and I don't think with Crows that will change a lot (lol).
