Hey all,

Happy to find a place online where other people appreciate crow hunting. I live in southeast Michigan and I'm new to crow hunting (been hunting since the 80s otherwise). I really like the challenge of taking them with my .22 PCP rifle, but I also have a 12 gauge.  I'm looking for other hunters in the area.

Punisher ,

Welcome, guys on here very helpful. Glad I am one of many that have gotten this fever recently! Makes me feel like I belong. No kidding people still say down here " you really hunt crows" with a look of bewilderment. Hope they don't figure it out how enjoyable it can be.
Looking forward to your post.

Hey fellas. Yeah, I get some funny looks from other hunters when I mention crows. Eventually they'll come around and begin talking about how smart crows are, and how weary of hunters, etc.
I'm amazed at some of the numbers guy on here get in a single day. I'm barely into double digits in my lifetime, and there are guys shooting well into the triple digits in a single day. Absolutely amazing.

I'd really love to meet up with some experienced hunters here in Michigan and drop a bunch come February. Any suggestions on how to do that?

Hi Chris,

I'm 99% sure of where you live. Getting permission to hunt out your way is much different than other parts of the state...and not in a good way.

I'm sure member BigBlackBirds could speak to that better than I.

BH

Also, please do not post the name of the city. It is not wise to post the locations of roosts.

Definitely not advertising my location too closely.smile   I thought the Michiganders would figure out where I am, though.

The roosts are totally inaccessible. The flyways to the south must be amazing, though.  But yeah, it's about as non-hunter friendly a place as you could find. I've tried knocking on doors outside of town and even advertising myself as a pest control service biggrin but no luck so far.  I just need to get away from here and meet some good people.

Hey Punisher
I'm in the middle of the state but hunt your direction at times depending on the particular year, where birds are at, how much free time I have, whether I'm chasing coyotes or crows, etc. Yea, pretty sure I know what birds you have seen but they are awful hard to get to. You can see em and they look so promising but that's as anti-hunter of an area as you can come by in the mid west so finding any access is a challenge. And its not exactly unpopulated country either so that doesnt help the situation. Sometimes you will get lucky and find the right spot but Ive spent countless hours chasing around there with lots of frustration to show for it.

Welcome to our CrowBusters "roost." I live and shoot (all too seldom) over on the W. side by the Big Lake and not too far from BH. There's said to be a large roost in another leftist, tree-hugger town to our E that is similar in demographics to your town of frustration; also similarly over-populated with NPR listeners.

My hope is that the crows (and other vermin) in such locations, where they are viewed by the local PETA members as "wonderful wilderness experiences," defecate all over their fountains and driveways and that the deer eat all of their plants (as they do here within the city limits with impunity). Then they too will cuss and wish that someone would, "...get rid of all of these ^#!$*&%&$ black-feathered pests that are crapping and making so much noise!"

Then, there's your cue to save the day. Try placing an ad on Craig's list. PM me and I will send the link to my Craig's List ad.

Good Hunting and Happy Thanksgiving!

Craig

Yeah the biggest roost here is surrounded by tree hugging  weirdoes. The people had to move it as the bird "bombs" saturated all those beautiful million dollar homes. The place they eat won't allow me to hunt them as his wife is a tree hugger...you talk about misery?

The deer tear up the gardens, the fischer cats kill off the domestic cats, and have wiped out our hawk population..go figure right? The Fischer cats wiped out ground nesting birds and annihilated our rabbit populations as well and once formerly populous bird s too...but here again  ..it's a combination of factors really hurting crow hunting here...and has exterminated it locally..but the tree huggers in their fantasy land don't help..it is pretty bad when  you cannot access the  one of New Englands' biggest crow roosts!

I covered two points here...we have the crows but no where to get at them...well...where the  heaviest amounts are thanks to tree huggerism..at nbo time in any part of the year does this state have so many crows...but here again...the potentially best area here anyways in the state is surrounded by tree huggers and paranoid anti-gun extremists...so you michiganers and others are not alone...what it will take is long trips to find decent areas or to move..right now i go along ways to find a good area...

I had to laugh just reading these replies. It seems like I'm the only person in this whole town that hunts. Buddies at work (who also hunt) laugh about it, saying I should have moved out to the country like they did. The things we do for wife. At any rate I've had a little luck here and there just outside of town, but never an epic day like some of the guys on here report. I'm sure I'll have to get pretty far from the Peoples Republic first!

I also totally agree that it's funny the crows seem to learn that liberal towns like this are safe. So they fly in by the thousands and dump all over everything in their path. That's probably the one feature of crows I can excuse smile.

BigBlackBirds, I'd also really like to try some coyote hunting. Mind if I pm you?
