OA, your turkey photo reminds me of the one and only time i hunted gobblers. Turkey have a rough time up here. Winters way too long and cold but concentrated efforts have established them in certain areas...mainly agricultural, where farm feed lots and caring land owners give them a hand. Short of it here, I was trying my best one morning to call a group across a small field...to no avail. All the time I must have had 50 crows saunter over my head over the morning period. Hunted crows the next day!

We have no shortage of these guys. However, like most other critters, you need to be on their morning commute to make something happen smile. I hope your population continues to grow, as they're mighty tasty.

Happy Thanksgiving boys!

I got some meats on the slow roaster for the family gathering tomorrow.  They love it and I'll never give out my secret ingredient.

I've been waiting and you didn't let me down! You have got to have some southern redneck in your DNA. That's some funny stuff right there. LOL

I bet the meat has a pungent taste to it?

Hey, if you cooked crow breasts over the toilet they would taste like "ca-ca"

It sure has been pretty slow on here this year but I figure that's because most people have figured out the best shot size for crow is #6 so there is not much left to discuss.

Several factors could be the reason things are slow on the Bulletin Board this season; 1. The economy, lots of folks out of work around the country. 2. The crow hunters are not getting any shooting to talk about or if they are, they are not saying. 3. Have lost interest like so many do after being hot for it for 5 to 10 years.

You never see that guy from Minnesota any more "Low & Slow" or "The Texas Crow Patrol" and more recently "Motion Decoy" I think your 150 odd bird crow hunt demoralized Motion Decoy to the point where it will take hours of therapy and heavy medication to get him back on track again!

...or, no season at all,no as with MI. I wish I had a deer story to tell, but I've been skunked the past two weeks. So, I'll wait till 21 DEC to try antlerless.

63 days to MI Spring Crow Season.

MotionDecoy's last post was in a thread he started titled "I got into trouble".  Perhaps some things were said to him that have caused him to stop participating? I for one hope he comes back, he was entertaining.

Hope everybody is just busy or killin crows, I don't think he was offended by the joking around as he joked back in his post. Hope all are well and will pick back up on their post. That said it has been slow for sure on here.

Mark,

Great looking hunt, Congrats. By the way are those shotguns Rem. Versa-Max's, that's what we are shooting and doggone it,they have been excellent for us.

Hey Butch,

That hunt was a few years back. I had to "go away" so I posted the pic  on this topic.... Some know, what I'm saying :)  Those are M2 Benelli's. 28" and 26".... She killed 9 in a row that day....Tomlin was impressed.. I'm shooting a Beretta A400 now..And new girlfriend doesn't like to hunt critters..

Mark,

10-4 on the "go away" that was funny. Both the Benelli's & Beretta's are excellent guns, I zoomed in and they looked like the Versa-Max and was wondering if you liked them. Heard some people that didn't and couldn't from my experience figure out why.

Butch, I've heard nothing but good things about the Versa Max..  picked one up at a gun store a few weeks ago and I was impressed.. Fit and feel.. etc.. my cousin shoots a Remington 1100, never jams and crushes dove..great gun..

All the best to you.

We can shoot all the starlings here we want, year round, as they are an exotic "pest." Good pellet gun fodder, but not much else. Who has time for that?

Who has time for that? Me.. I love pushing pellets thru starlings. Used to go to a dairy farm and shoot them..lots of fun..

I'm off work next week and will seek out some "city doves" (pigeons) and squirrels..

I was in an orchard once with a grower he told me the large groups of black birds were good for the orchard.. not sure why..

Orchards? Likely because the poop a lot - natural guano/fertilizer or maybe they eat pest insects.

I wish I could do the starling thing also. However, they never seem to land when I have my pellet gun with me. I never dedicated a hunt to them specifically.

Also, the idea of working the local feral pigeon population between crow seasons holds some real appeal, as they are another MI species with no limit/year round "season." I'd have to get another bundle of decoys and make a couple more flappers for the "magnet." Something to think about. Perhaps there's a "Pigeonbusters.com" site out there somewhere.biggrin
