These photos span over a 40 year period, this is but a fraction of them. The third photo was a screw up it should not be on here!

That crow was shot between 20 to 30 feet from the muzzle of my shotgun, the shot charge pushed him 6 feet sideways on impact in mid air.

Must have been something to see! It looks like a slug hit it!

Great pics! I think, for me, the best part is seeing how you construct and place your blinds.

They are perfect! I can only imagine the time it took to construct. Like I said, a lot can be learned through your pics. Thank you.

Hello, Bob.

I noticed you have a nice pair of Berettas (my guess, 391 Urika).  Considering the high volume of shooting you put them through.....when do you start noticing them acting sluggish and requiring a cleaning? What is the minimum load they will cycle (oz. weight and FPS)?

I have a new Beretta A400 Xtreme that I haven't really put through it's paces yet. They advertise it will cycle 7/8oz loads.

Steve,

All I shoot is a 1 1/8th ounce trap load in 8's or 7 1/2's. I usually don't even clean mine until I have shot 1200 rounds or if the firearm begins to start jamming then I clean it. I noticed my # 1 gun (Beretta Urika 391) was acting sluggish in 3 degree below zero weather in December. I sprayed the inside of the receiver with a solvent that will not freeze in sub zero weather and it was fine after that. My # 2 gun I use as a backup gun.

This season I shot a little over 20 flats of trap loads on crows.

Hutchinson and St. John Kansas were hot spots for many years but that all dried up when the farmers cut the caltalpa trees down that the crows roosted in.

I do my hunting in several states (out of state) now.

Very nice!

I see you have a FoxPro Super Snow Crow Pro. Very nice!

I am looking at FoxPro myself for coyotes and crows. Maybe something a little more mobile like....the Shockwave or CS24C (single horn speaker).

Is there a huge disadvantage with a smaller unit or one with a single speaker? Things to look for? Things to avoid?

Steve

The CS 24 C I am not familiar with, my partner uses a CS 24 L unit with two speakers for crows. It sure does the job. In my opinion if you are going to hunt crows two speakers are far better than one if you are dealing with lots of birds. Will you kill crows with one speaker? Yes you will; but you will have more crows coming to you because you can cover a much wider area using two speakers positioned in two different directions.

True about two speakers. How long are the cords? Do you find cords are issue if you "run-n-gun?" Or, does the benefit of two speakers far outweigh this? I do like the larger two 12V battery pack!

If you are just going to use the run & gun method then you don't really need a large unit. One of the Fox Pro units with the speaker built right into the unit will work for the style of hunting you do. Why be incumberd with cords for the speakers when the shooting lasts (on average) perhaps a few minutes at each stand. You want something that puts out some volume but is easy to carry & setup. It would not hurt to learn how to use a hand call if you are a run & gunner.

Do you live in Suffolk County on Long Island? North or south shore?

I grew up on Long Island on the north shore.

True on the FoxPro. I think a built-in speaker unit would work the best as I would be mobile.

On learning hand calls...getting the basic caw down. I think your CD will be ordered soon. My wife can't wait! :)

I'm from and live in central New York...right next to Utica.

Thanks, as always.

The name of your town sounded like one from eastern Long Island. How far are you from Little Falls? It's close to Utica.

My dad built homes in Utica and had a friend in Little Falls. This was back in the 1957. We used to shoot rats at night at a town dump in those days.

Wish we could just cut off Albany and the city. It's amazing how vastly different parts of the state view freedoms. Upstate New York is a great place to live. The Adirondacks, all the lakes and streams, the best of all fours seasons....it's beautiful. Unfortunately, we are blindsided with the Safe Act, taxes, etc. If it wasn't for aging in-laws, we would move. It's sad really. New York is all I know, it's home...yet, I don't really feel free.

So do you have any idea of where you would move too after the in-laws are gone? What age group are your in-laws in?

Upstate new york is beautiful....so rural-too bad Long Island brings the state down-they should separate it from mainland New York State...
Albany years ago I used to see a lot of crow sin that area...here I saw a Blue Gray male Goshawk with crows all over the parking lot (It was Sunday) and crows on the edge of the roof left and right lined up either side of this big hawk..it was September..still a hell of a lot of crows down town...then!

Those new gun laws really scared those bloods and crips and others now didn't it? Violent criminals never give a thought as to whether something is "illegal" or not...

The nYC residents can thank such historic "enlightened' individuals like 'Boss" Tweed in the late 1800s' and later gangster Tim Sullivan for those "enlightening" severe gun restrictions you people of entire New York suffer today....

Massachussettes is the New York City of New England...what people don't understand is the language used in the writing of the constitution was NOT specifically addressing firearms but everything you could conceivably got armed with..the founding fathers KNEW you couldn't bring a gun everywhere so they said Arms A SIN GOING armed MEANING WHATEVER YOU CHOSE TO GO armed WITH WHICH IS WHY THEY DID NOT SAY fire arms>..TODAY THAT MEaNT YOU COULD ARM YOURSELF WITH A POCKET FULL ODF MARBLES AND BE ARMED HAD YOU CHOSEN TO DO SO! yES MARTIAL ARTS WEAPONS TOO! tHE GOVERNMENTS NATIONWIDE AND FEDERALLY HaS IT ALL WRONG-IS THAT A surprise?

The united States constitution was never ratified...it would take about 33 states to get that idea rolling...to begin with-we are not "united"-I sure don't want new jersey representatives deciding a new constitution naturally-however it was to be strictly honored as the law of the land period. think of all the people who lost their rights for exercising their rights in all the different localities across the country because even the "law' doesn't know the law!!
Over the years I have heard different people say that the "constitution" was outdated...doesn't apply today...oh REALLY? Ever notice how politicians like bill Clinton ran behind the 5th amendment that doesn't apply today?
On that not I recall ben franklin saying "..except a few public officials"..what was he saying?
He was saying that the constitution is OUR constitution...! It doesn't apply to public officials meaning they essentially had rights at the whims of the people but couldn't determine the rights of the people(where when how and what) as i understand it..my how things have changed!

Bob...They are in their 60's and while not old by any means, we just feel better if we stayed around...just to be readily available to them if needed. It's tough to move when you have family ties and obligations. We are planning in taking a few trips to various southern states with the camper. States like Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina. We are lucky to have jobs that could easily relocate. I'm a nurse and she is in social services. She has been to Texas and liked it a lot. It's king of intimidating trying to pick a state, but maybe with some travel and research we can narrow our choices.

I hear you. Unfortunately, much of our republic lost sight of inalienable rights. My vote is lost in New York. The only alternative is to move where the representatives honor and reflect my values.

I got out of New York 41 years ago; got married back there on a Saturday and moved the very next day! I couldn't wait to move out of there I could see the handwriting on the wall even back in those days in regard to the crow hunting.

Western New York state wants to become  apart of Pennsylvania because of the gun "laws' and the banning of 'fracking" signed as "illegal" by the ever "enlightened" Governor burgermeister el supremo Andrew Cuomo the "enlightened' hero of the Peoples republic of New York...there just might be a second or should i say a REAL New York and a corrupt phony one soon...uitmust be upon agreement with Pennsylvania and New York an di guarantee you you won't get it from Andrew Cuomo!!! The modern day 'Boss" tweed of New York!

And the congress must bsupport the idea of secession of upstate New York to join Pennsylvania  and I guarantee you  Blowbama won't go along  with it..it will boil down to  the ever "enlightened" left versus the well ground "right"...Pennsylvania is generally "republican" so you cna be sure there will be along drawn out battle to keep upstate New York  under the iron unconstitutional "enlightened' heel of  the kingdom of Boss Tweed Cuomo!

If New York upstate becomes part of Pennsylvania all those unconstitutional gun laws become null and void and the Pennsylvania ones will  be the law of that area...all the NY taxes will no longer apply but this won't go without a fight..it will strengthen the  republican party and no democrat wants that...this is why  they won't allow Puerto Rico to become a state as well..it is by and large republican!

California doesn't know it yet but those Mexicans are by and large far more conservative than the Californians would like..when enough understand English and all the normally republican issues do you think they will support  the democrat party much longer? Certain social issues will be at the top here and if you know  California you can guess just what they are...!!

Race doesn't necessarily determine the political leanings. People forget that religion figures quite strongly  in Mexico..
