Just a couple dropped in.

This morning, I went to a place I've been several times over the past three years. A blueberry field on which the road was finally snow free and safe to drive on without becoming mired. As expected, the birds were their usual educated selves. All that is, except for a pair that by coincidence crash-landed almost on top of each other, near the fake trash bag with McDonald's junk--which might have held their attention for a mite too long for their health.

Nice crescent moon just prior to sunrise plus a pic of the setup. Pretty basic. Nothing much to brush up the blind, as the owners are rather fond of their blueberry bushes.

On the way home, I "reconned" a couple of my potential turkey spots and saw a lot of turkeyssmile. One tom strutted all the way across the road and into the blueberry bushes but I failed to get the camera out in time while stopped on the road--too cool to watch. After he went into the bushes, I used one of my turkey calls in an attempt to get a response from him with hen sounds. Nothing. That's a good thing (I believe), as is shows that the toms are not all that interested yet. Our season opens in a month (21 APRwink).

OA,

Enjoyed the hunt and pics, again glad to see you guys gettin out and bustin crows. Turkey opened last Sat. here and they have started strong, lot of birds have lost their lives. I have always liked to fish more than chase gobblers and fishing has been real good the past couple weeks, have the years supply of crappie in the freezer and now I get to float fish for spotted bass, did a short float yesterday and caught 20 in 3 hrs that averaged almost 3 lbs, last spot I caught was right at 5 lbs, great way to finish an afternoon trip.
Look forward to your next hunt.

Military grade camouflage netting. It works well, but in bright sun as this day was, movement can be seen through it (I'm pretty certain by the crows' reactions). It still needs to be brushed up. That particular day, no local materials were easily available.

I thought of putting it between the blueberry rows which should have worked much better. Problem is that camouflage netting is inherently a cussword-producing substance furious that catches on everything from the buttons you wear to branches; the b-berry rows are just close enough together to have made that a nightmare process.

I'm quite pleased with the PVC frame, as it's light and easy to assemble/disassemble. See this thread if you want details:

I was sucking wind Literally this morning, Only shot one crow and I couldn't drive into the farmers field so I used my deer cart to go out. When I quit the mud was about like putty sticking to everything boots cart tires. Tires picked up mud. Mud picked up loose corn stocks and bound up between the frame and tires like a / no it was a brake. Man was I glad to get back to the truck.

Just part of the charms of hunting the wily crow (or any other critter...smile ). You are to be commended for your tenacityclap.gif!

I'm sure you felt OK after all of that to have nailed at least one!!! I know I would.

You gotta get some photos!

OA great pics and set up. I need to invest in some decoys but I'm going to be calling anyway to try and slay a few more before season ends on the 31st. Our turkey season doesn't start until May 1st although we do have youth season in late april that my daughter has capitalized on over the last few years!!!

Woodsdog:

Thanks for the compliment.

We always enjoy photos on Crowbusters. Especially those of kids enjoying hunting with Dad (or mom) smile.
