Finally after 10 years of my wife just going to the range and just shooting at targets with her pistol, I got to watch my son teach her how to defend herself in actual scenario's (drawing from purse and shooting and other concealed carry options). We've been married 35 yrs and it took 25yrs to convince her to get a CC permit and learn how to protect herself. I sold her Beretta Tomcat 32 cal and bought a Glock Mod 42 in 380 cal which she told me she loves ( never thought I would here this from her about a gun). I was impressed with his teaching and with her abilities to react to situations. My son and I talked and think she is about 80% of where we want her to be as far as self defense go's. Hopefully she will never be in a situation where this training has to be used but I feel certain in a lot of situations she can defend herself. Looking forward to completing her training and start on my daughters. I know this is not about crow hunting but the challenge of this endeavor equals any hunting challenge I've encountered. It feels good to know she now stands a chance if I'm not there and to know she can help me if I need it.
10ga,
I carry 100% of the time, never had to draw but several times I have got ready to defend, I ran several calls in my former career where where with proper training the victims would still be here. Glad you made it thru your encounter!
Ted,
"Bonding". First couple years I thought she might divorce me over this! (lol) But now she enjoys being with the son and grandson at the range, thats what tipped the scales for her to learn self protection.
Motion,
Read about that, statistics show attacks happen quick, I think it's 3 seconds.
BH,
Thanks for reminding me that I'm about to buy my first purse (lol) doggone things are high, can almost buy a good gun for what some sell for and you know she's got the advantage so she will not like the cheaper ones!
What most everyone doesn't understand is when the police arrive; the coroner can get there a lot sooner! just a fact of life....the trick to it? Making sure the coroner isn't there for YOU!
States like Massachussettes is more worried about the predator not the prey..it is a predator state..NH is an armed state...99% of the time no one has to shoot a gun in self defense but displayed in self defense...you should have read or seen on youtube the outraged liberal crybabies who were outraged that anyone would defend themselves...what they said about Goetz was incredible! Before an dafter the time Goetz defended himself , there were other Goetzs' who did not turn themselves in...they would walk in on a stick up and just shoot the predator right in the head and walk out-no one saw a thing!?!?
Goetz did not know this i am sure and anyways that is beside the point. The fact is when Goetz was about then there were about 166 muggings on the subway...but if you read my previous posts you know the rest. However i heard from Goetz(on youtube)is that things are not so bad any mores. The reasons he gave were very interesting and true...but at the time he forgot one very important reason to figure in as well...NYS residents can get concealed carry permits NOW!
So -yes-you will see a drop in crime! You ALWAYS do!
Just an update on the training, Son got her out a few days ago and told me she did well, he advanced the training adding combat shooting and a couple scenario's. Finishing the next 20% of her training will take time and "more ammo" but will be worth it. Side note my daughter and a couple of women friends are showing interest in learning also so it looks like more training in the future and I would really like to see my Wife teach them with supervision. Motivation to learn self protection skills with women such as my wife was the hardest barrier to overcome, my ace in the hole was the son and grandson. As with crow hunting you have got to use what works. I know now she is not the easy target she once was. Now all I've got to do is not make her mad!
