Close Encounters of The Corvid Kind

About 6 weeks ago, my wife and I were in California on vacation. We traveled thru Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks, and were struck with their great beauty and natural wonder! If you have never been, you should go if at all possible.

While we were in Sequoia, I observed two Ravens, that were on the ground, begging for food. I did not feed them, but managed to get within about 15 feet of each, and took a couple of pictures.

I'm sure thats the closest that I have ever been to a wild, free, corvid. I observed their size ( considerably larger than a common crow) and their large, stout bill. They spoke to each other a time or two, with their garrrg, gurgle sound, and I confess, that I did'nt understand a word of what they said. They were probably cursing me for killing some of their cousins, here in North Carolina. We also saw three wild bears, one black, and two brown, for the first time.

I'll try to attach a few pics of our trip, and note the largeness of the Sequoia trees! Lots of firewood there buddy. One of the trees is the General Sherman tree, a Sequoia, and is the largest tree, by mass, in the world!

I was overwhelmed by the natural beauty of this area of our country!

Yep, crows are very intelligent, and one of the few animals to actually use tools for hunting, fishing, building etc

Yep, it's a British documentary from the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation )
Hence the number 007 (James Bond) for the test intelligent crow :)
Check YouTube for some very amazing documentaries on crows

They trained the crow one section at a time, and once he had completed all sections, they then combined them, which seemed to phase him for a few seconds, but he recovered well and completed the combined tasks perfectly
