Another Good Day - 85 with 3 Piebald's
Permalink

10gacrowshooter and I spent most of the day in the blind we shot out of yesterday afternoon.  There were crows migrating today going north to south at high altitude but there were 25% or less of what we saw yesterday.  Shooting was still good by our standards as we took down 85 crows between us.  Surprisingly we found three crows with white on their wing feathers as we cleaned up.  Two had similar long narrow white streaks on the underside of the wing feathers and the other had a golf ball size white spot on top of each wing.  Another good day to be a crow hunter in New Hampshire.

When you have such a perfect hunt or two in such an otherwise difficult state to find any decent shooting areas; no one can argue this isn't perfect despite the odds.
Sure I've shot a hundred rounds at an outing or two but never got that many-far from it. Mostly despite many.many crows I couldn't hit jack kaddidaly in my time in the old Walpole area but I tell you this; there was an unbelievable amount of crows then-back then...I hope my colleagues in the other side of the state lose absolutely nothing and may your aim always be true and don't forget to do it all again this fall too! Did you gentlemen do almost the same in Maine too? Or both top notch legendary days in NH? Didn't you do almost the same in spring of one year not long ago?

There are a lot of crows in my "new" area but conditions depend upon  the resident crow busters depending up  if the goose shooting is good then I have a fair chance and forgetting my ridiculous "gravy train" mentality of choice shots only...I have no idea  but I'd say your area and tactics are better obviously. Still I should have adapted better but it's hard when things were so predictable the last few years and sticking to the game plan;that is; NO shooting on week ends or get NO shooting on the week ends where I go.

In this state  you've got it made. You gentlemen of Parker Bros fame that is...no one else does anywhere that good here. One fellow I know might get 21 on his best day out. Otherwise a few here and there; occasionally eight...the year before last I'd do twenty each time out but could do better....but still nothing like two days total of 200 or so collectively so that's  really really great!

Keep up the good work! And stories!

I can always tell when a crow hunter has the Summertime Blues.  He is so frustrated that he resurrects a Crow Busters thread that is almost two years old.  smilesmile

And you can also tell when I'm suffering from the same ailment...I answer the thread!  Can't wait till Fall comes!!

Demi

P.S.  I'm already scouting out dove fields and pecan orchards to see if they might produce some good hunts.  The crops are developing nicely! biggrin

Doing a bit of run and gun here. trees are green now so cover is not an issue. Kind of bothers me to shoot breeding birds though.

I enjoy encouraging and complimenting a job well done...if you knew this state then what NH Crowshooter and 10ga would other wise be the stuff of legends regarding their annual big crow days....

Thanks TC, we do OK with limited places to hunt.  I think one of the keys to doing well in this state is you have to make a decision to be a crow hunter. By that I mean you have to focus your time and energy on crows when they are migrated and give up other hunting opportunities, waterfowl, deer, pheasant etc. The majority of hunters won't do that.

The area where I "compete" with others becomes more complicated because crows are secondary and geese primary but when they  do go it throws everything out of whack. I don't shoot anything but crows. Using the ammo on other  things  can create a shortage of ammo. Thanks again and good luck. I am expecting a better time this fall due to scouting ....

This is kind of amusing but I saw the same fellows out every week end getting one crow every time but they apparently are just happy to get anything at all....with me I need to get a dozen or more other wise why bother? I don't know what that makes me-fussy? I love reading the stories as it reminds me of days when you could go almost anywhere with practically a guarantee of relatively decent shooting for what that is worth regarding this state. But I have noticed one very critical important fact.....they are all hanging north these days...or withdrawing when so many are about. There seems to always be some isolated pocket of heavy crow activity somewhere. Out of the blue I found this isolated cornfield that will require further investigation to see if that holds true. The cornfield expansion of last year coupled with excessively high winds had a lot of crows around but....not necessarily to my advantage especially when they all come over at once!

One shoot was ruined when some one on a four wheeler raced up and down across the mighty COnnecticutt...I think they were disturbed. THankfully the train is in the area about a couple minutes...hard to hear if any are about...
