Nope, don't mean from Summer to Fall: from Fall Turkey to Gun Deer season in MI. What a difference 12 hours makes. The day before, it was turkey season--nothing seen for the last 4-5 mornings out, in historically good areas, with a few bucks and does passing through. 12 hours later, no deer seen (well, one about 100 yards away--too far for a slug), then this parade of 5 hens and 4 jakes appears. Fun to watch them eating my bait for a few minutes. Otherwise, a beautiful morning. Oh, almost forgot, there was a huge crow fight the other side of the lake, naturally.

O.A.

Your spot on, seems like this type of events with game happens a lot. Almost like there's some type of scense that they have in knowing that their on the menu or not. By the way hope you kill a biggun.

You need to invest in a new slug gun. You should be ok to 150 yards or so and even more with a number of modern setups.

I think I saw one that had a calendar tucked beneath her wing biggrin.

Thanks. However, more crummy weather coming (wind). Must say though, it's been an easy fall so far. Last year, we had a foot of snow to deal with during early to mid-NOV.

In this case, to be more specific, the deer was just a flash view. No strolling along. I would take a shot at 100, for sure, as this one groups <2" at 50. Tried the newer sabot slugs and they work fine, but too much $$. Most of the shots around here are 50-60 yards. Mossberg 500 setup with two barrels: turkey and slug.

At times one must almost think the birds and animals have privy to the seasons and regulationsbiggrin

As a matter of fact, about 30 minutes before official sunrise (i.e., 15 minutes before the legal carnage hour) there were three closely spaced shots to my SW. Then during the next 90 minutes or so, another 4 distant reports from various directions. So, someone was having some action. Can't quite figure out the first guy confuse. Zombie deer?

Back only a decade ago in the pre-EHD days, it wasn't uncommon for me to hear 75 shots an hour in various spots of allegan/van buren county on first day especially if it was a weekend. I hunted allegan county this opener, first time i can recall hunting there in at least 8 years on opener, and only heard 20 shots between daylight and around 10AM. very few deer at least where i was at and its been somewhat deer free for the last few years. got hit really hard with EHD a few years back. and of course there was one of those shots 10 minutes before legal time from somewhere not too far off.

on the other hand, the area where i live was supposedly like a war zone on the opener. my neighbor said he has never heard so many shots fired in such a short period. i meant to see how many deer were taken to dnr check station but didnt get around to it yet. my neighbor said it was nearly a two hour wait with cars backed way up when he went to check his in and he still didnt have the results back as of last night. but we are the only place in state with mandatory check in due to cwd so they probably werent ready for that many deer and there is lots of interest in trying to really decrease the herd here so that probably is skewing the numbers too.
