date night with the girlfriend ran later then i wanted it to...and i overslept my 4am wake up alarm...waking up at 7am...almost blew it off and went back to bed but knowing this would be my 2nd to last chance to hunt crows this season...i made my hour and half trek to my hunting area....tried a new spot...which was a cow corn feild that has not been disked under yet....only place to hide was a dry drainage ditch with dead weeds running along it...which actually made it like a pit blind and was super comfy to hunt out of....when i arrived crows were already on the move...i set up quick as i could and fired up the caller....like the previous week our numbers are thinning out...seems mostly like resident birds around...i had no mobs...no small groups...all single happy campers looking to make new friends i suspect....had 7 come in but only put 5 down before i had to quit at noon and head back home...probly could have done 10-15 IFFFFF i had gotten there before sun up....stillll a fun day....going to try to hunt 2 final days next week...then focus on some fishing till thunder chickens open in may...

Is the dark spot to the right of your shadow the "pit blind?" Hey, it worked! I'd take it in a pinch too.

Good improv for a successful hunt.

yes thats the " pit blind " the only thing that sucked was getting there late...the local crows have been moving well between sunrise and 10 am then its just stragglers every 30 mins or so till the afternoon return flight....when i got to the field there was about 2 dozen crows messing around in it...im sure had i been there at daybreak it would have been a much better day...but 5 down is better then NONE DOWN!

going to try the meth lab one more time monday as its the last day for crows for us in NY and the field is being turned over on saturday....HOPEFULLY the local birds will wanna come get some free grub...i am setting 3 alarms lol..

gmochty...thanks...i used to run 2 doz. plastic full bodies...i down sized to a doz. flocked GHG decoys and have noticed the birds like them WAYYYY better....some mornings...LESS works better then more...and i like to vary my spreads to keep the birds on their toes....sometimes a full dozen sometimes 4 decoys...seems to work out well

I went out Sunday Morning, Our flocks are all busted up and pretty much gone, Had 6 birds come in though and dropped four so not a complete loss. Good to see you thin the herd a little to.

I agree on sometimes less is better. I've used just 1 decoy, and a crow in distress. Sometimes they come flying in like they were on a string.
