Because it marks the start of the longest period of time between crow hunts in this neck of the woods,  122 days to go.

 Ditto, here.no

I'm going to argue the point a bit and say that actually, over this way, 30 SEP is actually worse, because there is actually some decent crow movement from N to S (nothing up to "flyway" significance) that we must simply stand by and watch; unable to shoot. This is because the DNR considers (rightly) that there's more revenue to the $tate'$ coffer$ for turkey and deer in OCT than that provided by we few crow busters.

I wish Arkansas would go to the Tennessee Crow season (June 1 thru Feb 28) Fridays,Saturday,Sunday. That way we could hunt the young juvenile crows which are dumber than a box of rocks. Most of my buddies still work and only get to hunt on weekends.I believe they have a depredation clause also.

Mattie I think those long weekend seasons would be a disaster in any state that has a migration of crows.  In NH the best crow hunting is during a 3 week fall migration.  It is so strong we shoot 2/3 of our annual number of birds during that three weeks and all our personal one day records happen then.  If the season is closed for 3 or four days a week during the migration we would literally miss out on some of the best crow hunting opportunities of the year.

Pete,

I feel the same way. Generally I will not hunt in a state where you are restricted to certain days of the week. When I hunted back east with Jerry Byroad we hunted in Maryland and when you had to stop hunting because of the certain day or days we would go across the state line into New York State to hunt crows.

I see your point on hunting the migration. Our migration in Arkansas is usually driven by extreme cold weather and snow covering our northern bordering states.Crows seem to migrate back and forth with this weather. My point was to get the dumb and dumber young juvenile crows which hatch out here in june,July and August giving us more time to hunt crows.50 years ago you could hunt crows year round and we also had a depredation clause where crows were damaging crops or orchards they could be hunted. I have also heard we had to limit days of hunting crows because of a treaty with Mexico. Not sure of that though.

Mattie:

Check this out on the Site:

There are also other regs out there on the Internet, but this explains it.

Just for fun and weirdness, try this as well:

Go get em!'

Thanks Old Artilleryman.I knew I had saw that somewhere. It seems Tennessee has decided to use their days (124) differently . Would be interested in knowing how other states use their days. Those with strong migration months must surely take advantage of this.

From what I read here, crow seasons are different all over the map. I've speculated a few times that Michigan's two seasons (FEB-MAR & AUG-SEP) are when they are because these months interfere the least with the other big $$ hunting seasons (e.g., deer, turkey) that bring in the most revenue to the State.

The PA season is pretty good for my schedule, Fri, Sat, Sun from July 1 (first day of new hunting season) to April (10 this year). Until PA goes to all game Sunday hunting, I don't know if they'll change that for crow. 95% of my crow hunting is on Sunday.

IMG_4322.JPGIMG_4280.JPGNo limits, seasons or regulations here. Kill them when you want. I'm just getting started and hoping for some good spring shoots! Couple pics from early this week...

Ted,

Same here, we choose our days to hunt and as far as crows and other non-game should be the same everywhere. (My 2 cents)
Hope you have a great spring an look forward to your reports.

same here in NY....we ended april 1st and the last weekend to hunt it was a noreaster with heavy rain and 20-30 mph winds..

sadly we do not open back up till september 1st...

i often wondered if my maybe we had crow limits( i know this makes some of you cringe) like say 30 a day maybe we could keep our crow season open year round....

BAYMAN,

I cringed, but I understand your thought process. Problem I see now is to many restrictions by the powers that be. Areas should be hunted in there prime times, and allow hunters to pick their their days to hunt crows. I know this works good down here and may not do well in other areas but it's my thought.
