Skip Becomes (More) Famous!!

Folks, when you can shoot like Skip Woody word gets around!  The man is a legend with his marksmanship and had made himself known in many shooting disciplines ranging from shooting on the Army Rifle Team, long range prairie dogs hunting, sporting clays (where he is very close to earning his Master Class pin), and of course crow hunting. 

If you don't believe me, just take a look at this film recently released by FOXPRO which gives us a peek into some of his shooting abilities.  Very impressive!!  As you may know, Skip is a member of the FoxPro Field Staff.

Very nice video. I am extremely impressed with the sporting clays you where talking about. That is a LOT of fun but its about the hardest shooting i have ever done. I went to a PVA charity shoot last year and it was everything i could do to get 50%. Trap i shoot 100% (usually) and skeet about 75-80%. That sporting clays is an entirely different beast. I just with we had a place closer. Seems like its the best way to get by shooting on point.

Yes, sporting clays is a blast and is very good training.  Unlike trap or skeet, sporting clays presentations are never the same, so measuring leads will get you into trouble.   Likewise, bird hunting will rarely give you the same shots.

There is a great shooting tip demonstrated in the FoxPro video.  In the first scene where Skip is about to shoot, take a close look at his eyes as he pulls the gun up.  Skip never looks at the barrel, only at the crow he is shooting.  This is instinct shooting and it works for any moving target.

If you measure lead, your eyes come back to the barrel and the gun stops...usually resulting in a miss behind the bird.  By looking intently only at the bird, the barrel goes to the right spot (subconsciously) every time!  It makes for the best shooters.

P.S.  I've shot some sporting clays tournaments at Elk Creek in Owenton, KY.  Is this near you?  It's a great venue!

Nobody ever gets a perfect score at sporting clays. 5 stand is great too... constantly changing up the presentation. Anyone ever shoot bunker trap or International?

Folks: You have no idea how much fun it was to make that short video! Fortunately, I had on my rubber underwear!!!biggrin This video is just a small part of a proposed "Crow Hunting in North Carolina" program that I hope comes to fruition. The videographer, Chris Douglas,  that did this for FoxPro is also one of the videographers used by Jim Shockey over the years and Chris is in charge of it all. What a professional he is!! As for the whole program all I can do is think positive!

 Elk Creek is about 60 miles from me. I was actually looking as some pheasant hunts around there for this years hunting trip. You are right about the looking only at the target. I am waiting to find out if i won the lottery for Ky elk this year. If not then my older brother and I are going to Colorado for a 4 day hunt and thought about doing the pheasants on the way back.
