Still hot and dry here and it's making it tough hunting on us. Crows shut down about 9:30 on us.I had not checked if the orchard had been bush hogged, which will cost us birds. Anyway we hunted hard and killed 81, which is about 60 shy of our average on this spot. It has been a good steady spot, not complaining but any Crowhunter can kill these numbers there it's that good. Weather is on the way to bring much needed rain and fall temps which "should" help birds be more active longer.

Side note BH, we only found 58 which in the tall grass wasn't easy, the clicker told the truth and I think I missed clicking a few during the shooting flurries we had. Thanks again.

Only took one pic of the "trailer of death"  for OA biggrin

Hi Butch, this is exactly "why I wait for cooler weather" to hunt in mid 80 degree heat or warmer makes both me and the birds lethargic. So how hot was it? Were you solo or with company? About another month and things should get real pleasant for getting after the crows that far south.

Still looks like it made for a fun hunt. I mean hey, if your gonna sweat it you might as well have something to show for it. It looks nice.

Wow 81, Im amazed! This may be a silly question but if you are killing that many at one time, how many shells do you carry with you?

Bob,

Temps were about 60 at daylight and high 80's really quick, plus humid. 3 of us shot which we don't do much but a friend that hunts a couple times a year was with us and he's crow savy so we can make it work but it still will probly cost us a few but the fellowship is worth it. As far as waiting landowners want us there to help control damage so if we get unwanted conditions we have to make the best of it. Don't mean to sound disappointed but this spot has been good for us numbers wise, but this hot dry fall our numbers are down and after Elkhunter had a good shoot I thought things had changed for the better. Still there's good shoots for our area to be had we just ain't hit it right yet. Hopefully things will start lining up for some good numbers as the weather gets normal down here or we will take what we can get that's crowhunting and we all know you can go from hero to zero real quick with these rascals.

DuckWyatt,

You are correct on the fun, we had a good time we just had "high expectations" and Mr. Crow showed us that it's called Huntin for a reason biggrin . And I don't want to come across as spoiled as I know a lot of Great crow hunters that are on this site could kill a lot more than us if they had access to these types of properties we hunt. And of course we suffer from the same "disease" that all crowhunters are infected with " you can never shoot enough of them" that drives us.

Lefty,

We carry 20 plus boxes per shooter, and start with 10 in the blind. Never want to run out if you catch them right biggrin  If you do a search on Military ammo cans there are pics I posted of our set up.

Hahaha, wow! You confirm that Im a rookie. My buddies laugh at me when I bring 4-5 boxes. They say Im being/feeling optimistic. They bring less than I do.
If I end up hitting them right and they run out of ammo,am I obligated to let them get into my stash? Hahahaha

Lefty,

Good question, shooting 7 1/2 promo shells 3 dr. Powder an 1 1/8 of shot but later in season we shoot reloads both #6 and 7 1/2's. The reloads are hotter and we do cheat and load some 1 1/4 Ounce shells smile

Butch

Forgot to tell you that yes you should share but I always make them sweat a little biggrin  I even tell them sandwich and snacks cost 5 bucks a piece out in the field.
