Post Halloween Celebration With Crows

Greetings All,

Halloween has come & gone but the pumpkins continue to serve a purpose.  Well, for the crows anyway.  A pumpkin producer here in the midwest called me to say the crows were all up in his business.  He had his pumpkin patch cultivated and the crows were stopping for an orange treat during their daily travels.  That in itself was not a big deal but the birds were also starting to gather & peck/eat more valuable saleable possessions of this gentleman.  THAT, was a problem.

Big Honkers & partner to the rescue.

We shot 123.  Here are some photos for you fellas:

My partner taking aim with more targets to the rear.

My partner taking aim on a bird a split second before the trigger pull.

My partner on the same bird a split second AFTER the trigger pull, a nice clean fold.

The downwind tree: a nice place holder for 4 dead birds that got caught on the way down.  Those grapevines were pretty thick.

Happy Halloween everyone!  biggrin

Stay safe out there.

Good hunting,

BH

Hey Jason, I like the first photo it gives you a feel of the spot you are in plus the action photo itself. I will more than likely bump in to you before season's end. How is that very cute little daughter of yours doing, you had better get a body guard for her in another 12 to 15 years. Is your father still hunting with you? Tell Joby and Brian that I send my regards.

So how has your season gone so far?

I had a good 3 day solo hunt recently where I shot 966 crows in 3 days. Dick & I had one shoot together this season where we shot 530 on an afternoon shoot.

So if my memory serves me right you ought to be about 36 years old now? It's amazing how fast life goes, it seems like yesterday when I was your age. My enthusiasm knew no bounds when I was your age. I was splitting logs yesterday afternoon with a 12 pound sledge hammer and a wedge. Good exercise makes you feel good to do some physical labor once in a while.

B.H.

Solid hunt and report! Photos were great.
I figure you had to tuck the mullet under your hat so the locals wouldn't be all over y'all and ruin the hunt biggrin

Sorry couldn't resist, anyway good to see you smokin them and I may have to find me a pumpkin patch.

Jason,

Now that is giving a group of marauding crows the old 1-2-3 punch! 123 crows is a great day of hunting!

Thanks for a great report and some very nice photos.

Hi Fellas!

Thanks for the kind comments.

I have a confession.  All 4 of those birds stuck in the tree were shot by my partner, I should have added that in the photo description.

Bob, you are right on all accounts.  I'm guessing you'll cross paths with my father and I at some point this season.  I'll tell him to save a cigar for you.  smile

Hi Jason,

I don't smoke or chew any more but it was kind of you to offer. My two pals (twins) age 14 kept hiding my chewing tobacco on me so I would quit. There mom (age 36) trusts me with them, they are good kids. I got acquainted with them ( the two girls) four years ago in a snow storm.
