Primos Old Crow Call - Any way to tune it?

Hello fellow Crow Busters,

Has anyone tried or have had any experience with the Primos Old Crow Call?

It has some potential but mine at the moment sounds more like a New Years Party 'blower' .

The body is wooden and the mouthpiece is plastic with a reed inside of it of course.

In comparison, the HS Hammerin' Crow call has the ability to move the reed up and down, so my question is: is it possible to tune the reed or do anything to my Primos Old Crow Call to give it more of that raspier crow sound?

Just pull the mouthpiece out of the barrel of the call and make fine adjustments up or down the bottom half of the mouthpiece where it is grooved out. Every time you tweek it you have to put the mouthpiece back in the barrel of the call to check the sound until you get it to your satisfaction.

Throw the Primos away, and buy a Gibson. 

Listen, I  have no problem with Primos, or anyone else, making money. 

But Darrel Gibson makes the best crow calls first, then he makes money (I hope)!

Bob A and KenCrow, thank you. I wish there was a way to test all these calls before investing the dough.  I suppose the only other way to know is to ask the crow experts. How is the Faulk's Crow Call compared to the Gibson ? Thanks again! Still learning a lot over here... Al

Faulk makes a good call for the money.

When you get better at this game then you can invest in a forty dollar crow call if you wish too.

The "Hammerin' crow call" works very well...Faulks did me years of service and I still have it...but I am a crow talker with various pitched calls for certain sounds..I use a LOhman to do the high pitched "CAUGHT CAUGHT CAUGHT" because  the higher pitched calls make it too high whereas using a higher pitched call to imitate lower pitched calls  does very well for me.

 I talk to the crows and know exactly what to say when!

(Now if only my guns performed then I'd be an actual crow shooter!)

Oh yes I have a "Primos" and it works well for me. Every crow call has a certain way to blow it-either hard or soft...It takes practise. For me I blow medium into wooden calls and medium into plastic. You got make your "gargle" sympathetic to the reed to get the correct pitch and proper dialect. Do you want to scream at them or talk to them? I've heard too many lousy callers who had no idea what they thought they were doing.

Thank you folks for the great advice and tips. I'm really starting to get the hang of this.
I pulled the reed up about 3 mm and what a difference! I am able to make a more throaty call, and was able to call in a flock of 11 crows who kept circling around my 12th floor apartment window every time I'd call them! I've never experienced anything like it.
I found the 'Crow Busters Association Custom Mix' Crow sounds on Youtube to be most helpful (www.youtube.com/watch).
