Crows leaving Florida and Georgia.

Any crows with any intelligence are hauling ass to get out of Florida and Georgia with this weather rolling in. If I were a crow I would head for Tennessee for the next few weeks! I have seen wind as strong as 50 mph I can't imagine sustained wind of 74 mph or stronger like they are going to experience in Florida and parts of Georgia. I bet the pecan growers are suffering from high anxiety right now.

 Hey Bob:

Why don't you tell them to go to NH instead?

Bob,

You are correct on the growers concern, spoke to one yesterday that has approximately 400 acres loaded, a limb breaking year. Said that's all he's been doing for a couple of weeks is cleaning up broke limbs and this event could devastate his crop. Here's hoping they are spared. And hope the "crows" stay and more ease down so this hunter can help decrease their population.wink

Hi Butch, I'm sure the orchard owners have crop insurance. I had to put two new recoil springs in both my Beretta semi autos this week. Now they are set to go!

Bob,

Most of them that I hunt actually don't carry crop insurance, the ones that do told me its on a percentage basis (usually up to 65 % coverage unless they buy catastrophic which they say is cost prohibited for them. But the good thing is they are farmers and deal with all kind of issues when growing crops and just roll with the punches.

In spite of the hurricane, the migratory birds are still coming down.  Starting to get calls from farmers, so it should be a good year.

We live on a barrier island near Charleston and got hit by Irma at high tide.  Unfortunately, it was already a very high tide (7.5') from the full moon.  With the extra 6' or so, here are some pictures of our yard and (usually) small creek in front.  We got some water in the above-ground basement, but not much.

Also note the brown ball of fire ants floating in the salt water.  There were scores of these balls floating everywhere!

We just got power restored yesterday afternoon, which was a big step toward recovery!
