High, Low or no matter?

Hey Butch (and other southern hunters...)

The area I hunt (central MS) has what I guess I would call gently rolling hills for the most part...  I'm trying to pick some spots to set-up my blind for next year.

In general have you noticed whether it matters if you set up in a low spot or high ground?  I mostly hunt along agricultural fields...

I'm not a southern hunter, but when I have a choice of high or low blind locations, I'll take the high ground every time.

A couple years back, Charles and I set-up in a gravel pit to call crows. We put my FoxPro and the decoys in the bottom of the pit, we were around 50 feet higher. Several times that day we would have to standup and shoot crows that were 20-30 feet below us. It was great fun.

Msrob,

Like the others I prefer the elevation, but if you can scout the AG fields and watch, the crows will most of the time show you where you need to set up. Good luck on your blnds and share the hunts with us.

Around here, on the coast, land is flat as a pancake. When we hunt in upstate pecan orchards, the high ground is generally more productive, assuming there is food onsite.

Hope this helps. Good hunting.

Demi

There seems to be a consensus! Thanks guys!

Mainehunt, Shooting down on crows sounds like about the coolest thing ever!!! There are some gravel pits not far from me. Ill have to see if that's something I can pull off.

Thanks for sharing!!!
