Owl or hawk calls

Looking for a good owl or hawk call for my hand calling. Any recommendations? I’m not sure if anyone makes high quality calls like the Gibson or malardtone calls. I’ve seen the primos and some other mass produced calls but never heard anything good about them.

First off  the Great Horned Owl and Barred owl calls are very easy to imitate. Go to youtube and type in whichever owl....the PS OLt hawk call  to me makes better cooper hawk calls than a Red tailed hawk but  I stumbled across a red tailed hawk call  amongst the used crow calls I have been buying...but you need to practise and experiment as  just buying a call and trying to  blow it like a trumpet just won't work period...in example I've seen too many newbies take a crow call and exhale with all their might-wwrroonnggg!! That only leaves one red faced and out of breath....!!

Remember this too; keep this in mind; have you heard these calls?  These birds call every so often...not repeatedly over and over rapidly. Got to sound naturally...so practise makes perfect, some crow calls I have in example you blow as necessary to get the desired effects...gently or strongly. Same with the hawk and owl calls. Hawks calls generally require gentle blowing and given the size of these birds lungs too...length of the call....I don't know the name of the manufacturer who made my used call but it does a red tailed hawk amazingly!

For now, I've been carrying a small bottle that sounds a lot like a Great Horned Owl. Like Killer says, go to you tube, get the sound as close as possible, and go from there until you can locate a call to put on your lanyard. Good Luck!

If you got competition or are a "scare crow" this idea won't help much...gimmicks do not magically produce crows...they have to be there and being there  does not mean they will come in...something they've not seen before will work but eventually you will have to give them a breather...and too much of a "scare crow" eventually will get them to run off every time they recognize your calling...

To be fair some guys don't worry about numbers...I do...look at it this way; if you got to go two hours one way then it must be worth your while but that is just me; my views on the subject. For but one or two crows then you become a tourist; not a crow shooter as none will be there but you'll other wise see them all over the highway! And no way to blast them!

I ended up going with a falks hawk call. I have heard some hawks here and there while hunting crow but mostly while deer hunting all day. It sounds pretty good to me but we will see how it works this September when crow season opens, As long as I don't get an elk tag next week.

Do not imitate the Goshawk or Coopers' hawk if you don't have that many crows....the goshawk is avoided by the crow unless they've got serious nmbers.....
