THE FIRST DAY OF CROW SEASON,WAS CRAP,BUT........

Hey All
We went out this morning to one of my spots, brand new cut hay field, not one  darn crow came in!!! no
So I loaded up all my Varmint huntin stuff and headed to my home town, where I have the run of all the farms.biggrin
I was going to shoot some chucks, but I wanted to do some wing shootin. I set up my pigeon decoys and the action did not stop, heck while I was trying to pick up they were still decoying in,the hot set up is stationary decoys and a Mojo Dove,I also put my Mojo Hawk out there, does'nt scare the pigeons at all,I guess the movement is what does it.Well let me tell the you,the barrel on my new Franchi 620 was smokin hot ,but did not jamb once!! I had to switch to a skeet choke the darn things were in close!!!biggrin
I did miss a lot, but I picked up 50 and I bet I dropped 30 or more in the grass and had some take off on foot.  clap.gif

I was using Remington Gun Clubs,#8 shot. they put the hurt on them!!!boo.gif

P.S. The crow decoys proved to be a great confidence decoy for the pigeons!!biggrin

Cool. I tried calling coyotes yesterday morning about day break but didn't see any. Shot a crow later but learned a lesson on letting the first couple come in before shooting. I shot the first one (the scout?) and the others left.

Shoot every crow that comes within range. The old stories about crow scouts reporting back that "all's clear" so the rest can come in makes for good reading but crows are just not that smartbiggrin

Good job on the pigeons SD...I like shooting those almost as much as crowssmile

Shane glad you got to christain your new 20 on pigeons. Kind of addicting ain't it?? Do you think it was the heat that dulled the crows??? I've often wondered about the guys in the states that let you hunt this time of year if the heat and humidity would damper the crow killin... I'm down to 3 months and 3 weeks til I'm killin em. I had to order a Jellyhead choke from the company for my MAXUS, I gave up on buying one off the shelf. I miss the hell out of this web site. I am just about over the withdralls only took about 4 weeks.....

Doin right ain't got no end!!!!!
