Unless it is a downpore, I don't mind hunting in the rain. My question to you fellows has to do with using foxpro callers in the rain (or wet conditions such as a snowy day).
Do you use them in the rain? Do you cover them? How do they sound in a dry bag? etc
If you get caught in the rain I would not worry about any of the FoxPro Game Callers because there are no moving parts, it's all digital. Now a tape player is a differen't story!

They got to eat some time. As far as the fox pro being water proof bob it's water resestiant that's what I was told it will shed alittle rain but don't try calling crows under water.

i guess you r right. i just never seen to many when I was caught in it
I have had some great shoots in light rain, but never heavy, but I have had some great shoots right after a heavy rain, JD is right, when it cools of the crows need a lot of food for the cold nights.

i have noticed they do come alive after a nice rainfall
As I mentioned before if you are out hunting and some clouds roll in and you get caught in the rain it won't hurt a FoxPro. I don't recomend hunting crows in the rain because the vast majority of them just sit tight until it quits raining.
Water resistant is quite adequate if you get caught in the rain.

Like I said before, unless its a downpour, I don't mind hunting in the rain. A light misty rain, or a rain cloud moving through, or a snowy day (without high wind), I'm ok. Thanks for the replies......
Crows hate rain but I have had some real good shoots as rain was moving in. Crows will fly low, direct, and often very early to a roost when wet weather is moving in. Also after a heavy rain crows can bee seen sitting and drying off on dead stubs above wet green foliage. Makes for great rifle hunting.
1983, I do believe your comment on chucks obtaining all of their water needs from grass is for the most part true. Chucks, prairie dogs, gophers, etc, obain most of their water from the green grass they consume.

I thought they did. I am not saying if there is a stream or puddle they won't drink from it but they dig there holes in dry ground so I doubt the get water puddles under ground to drink from.

JD You were right, they get their water from the dew on the grass in the morning, from the grass and stuff they eat,and they love to come out after a rain storm,I have seen chuck holes that were two hundred hards from the nearest water.Up here it is popular for the chucks to settle in the hedge row next to a river or stream, but its not for water, its so they can watch the backside for the damn coyotes. The coyotes are killin all of my chucks before I can get to them, rats!!!

My experience has been to basically stay home on an all day rain affair. Some of my best hunts have been before one of those fronts. They can sense the fronts comming in better than waterfowl I think. A bandit dont have the same eyelid as a duck. Dam shame cause if they did I would save a ton of money on duck loads!!!!
Yup, trying to hunt crows in the rain will not accomplish anything, except a very nice bath for you're equipment!
Several times over the years the weather man has called for clear skies with no rain the day I am in the field. Then I see clouds roll in and the crows are on the move headed back towards the roost early. I know they know something that the weather man does not, "how to predict the weather" Ted mentioned this in his last post about how well they can predict the weather.
I keep a tarp in the pickup, if it looks like rain I will go get it before the rain rolls in. If It does rain I just cover up all my equipment ( e-caller, guns and ammo ) and go sit in the truck until it quits.

As Bob, Chip and others stated, you won't have any luck with crows in the rain. I didn't know this years ago and brought a bunch of camo rain gear for crow hunting in said rain. I figured no one else would be hunting those days and I would clean up. I learned the hard way this wouldn't work. The beauty of Crowbusters is learning from our more experienced peers.
Hi Bob,
I have been enjoying your podcast on my IPOD and it is excellent along with the others in the series. Randy Watson on Lighting Predators and Byron South on Bobcats also pack a lot of useful information.
No not waterproof, we say splash proof. If your caught in a light rain there is no need to worry. If your caught in a driving rain it is best to put it in a plastic ziplock baggy to keep out the rain. This has virtually no effect on the sound or volume. If the caller gets very wet wipe it off as soon as you can. You should also unscrew the speaker to let it dry out if any water gets inside the caller.
I have used a big ziplock bag, works perfect, cheap, light, I keep one right in the camera bag I use to carry my FX3 in.
