I think I have what I want to say. if anyone has anything to add, please post. As a groups of PA hunters, we can print the PDF (as soon as I can find out how to make an attachment) and send via mail or copy and paste into an email, where available. From what I have read, emails get the same attention as paper.
If anyone else outside of PA has any feedback, you are welcome to post as well. This is my first attempt at this type of issue. The letter is pasted into this post for your review. Please indicate if a MS Word format would be better where you can add your name and print all together, rather than a PDF where you would print and hand-write your info.
Under Pennsylvania law, it is permissible to use electronic calls to take wildlife when hunting bobcats, foxes, raccoons, coyotes and crows. The use of any electronic or mechanical device used to attract coyotes for hunting or trapping was amended for Title 34 Game and Wildlife Code. I am asking you to propose an amendment to the exception for unlawful devices and methods.
Please consider a proposal for amending the inclusion of crows to Title 34 Game and Wildlife Code, Chapter 23. Hunting and Furtaking, Subchapter A. General Provisions, Sec. 2308. Unlawful devices and methods, (b) Exceptions, (5) any electronic or mechanical device used to attract coyotes for hunting or trapping.
<Add justification?>
Thank you for your time and consideration of my view and opinion.
Respectfully,
(Hunter's Name) (Hunter's Address)

Since the best crow hunting is during the fall & winter you aught to see if you can have the law changed to hunting crows 7 days a week! Say from october to january?

Here is another way to look at it. If you can only legally hunt, say 3 days a week what happens if the weather is no good to hunt on those days? I know where you are coming from, it was not so long ago that all I had was weekends without calling in sick. I then went to work on second shift (4:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.) where I could hunt any day of the week up until around noon time. Then I'd get a little sleep before going in that day. I liked that setup so well I stayed on second shift for almost 18 years. I didn't have to worry about getting rained out or if the wind was wrong for that day. I had the option of picking a day where I had the advantage, plus I had 7 days a week inwhich to choose the best days, you can not do that near as well where you are restricted to 3 days out of 7. Just somthing to think about is all.

I disagree with you Bob, on that one,Most of us can not hunt during the week, the three day a week spreads the season out for me ,from July to March giving me a varied type of hunting for crows, and I do not have to rush my season,if it rains I can go yote hunting. It also is most benificial for the farmers the crows can be sniped and hunted during chuck shooting season when the sweet corn needs the most protection.I hope they never change it up here,I just wish one of the days could be sunday.

Yes I feel the same way Shane but I was just sayen bob had a point. I like it spread out that way when it gets darn cold and the snow gets deep in winter I don't have to rush out and hunt although I got my self a good set of snow shoes and used them last year up here in the snow belt of pa to take a few crows when it wasent fit for man or beast out. Let me tell you we get the snow.

How many days a week are you allowed to hunt crows in PA, 3 or 4? I used to take all my vacation time during the crow season here in Kansas.
For the fellas that would want a 7 day a week season in PA a good point to make to the Game Commission would be that it would bring in more revenue. For example, more out of state licences, motels, restaurants, gas and sporting goods. They just might ok it because of the tough economic times we are in right now.

In recent years I don't know (in PA) but from the 1950's to the very late 1980's you had one of the largest crow roosts in the nation close to Gettysburg, PA. That roost in it's hey day had estimates of upwards of two million crows ! Thats where Jerry Byroade shot 525 crows in one afternoon with a 410 gauge shotgun back in the 1980's. Thats the largest shoot he ever had back there. He mentioned that he hunted that area from the 50's to the 80's before the crows pulled out. Jerry also mentioned that back in the early days (1950's to early 1970's) you could hunt crows 7 days a week in those days. Jerry would sometimes spend a week to 10 days hunting crows near 3 differen't roosts in PA in those days. He would get a motel room with a weekly rate to save money. He used to also (and still does) hunt crows in Maryland which is where he is from. He still gets a few shoots each season which get into the 300 range during an afternoon flyway shoot.

pa guys....i have listed on craigslist, and if you look you might see it. western pa. looking for crow roosts or large gathering, permission and that sort of thing. a lady in sarver contacted me through email and said she had alot. i responded and she never got back to me. post something up and if you get a snag we should all come together and have some fun shoots. just an idea....i know you guys are looking for those big hunts that bob gets like i am:.)
If the new roosts in PA are off the beaten path no crow hunter is going to tell you where they are, they don't want the competion. PA still has lots of crows, but it also has lots of crow hunters!

I never hunted with a good crow buddy untill this weekend. I enjoyed it to the upmost. If you shoot with somebody who wants to go out and shoot like bob does every time and gets upset if he doesnt. I dont enjoy that personality. Me and this guy I finally met this weekend and shot with, we got 6 and I couldnt of had more fun. I enjoy the time spent with someone that appreciates it as much as me. You go and have a good shoot by yourself and go and tell somebody about it who cares less, it doesnt mean anything. If you spend that time with somebody who does appreciate it. you can talk about it for years and had somebody there who seen it all with you. I understand some guys want it all to themselfs but Im not one of them. I would be glad to hunt with one of you guys no matter if you had the finest spot picked out or I did the work myself and invited you to enjoy it with me.
Hey Crow Thats what its all about!! I go with my buddy Brian or Bob,and now I Have Pete from mid state to go with. Its a blast to double team crows and talk smack about the others guys shootin, and just have a blast.I have also had a few good shoots with Dad and he loves to go also.
I love it when we walk into the local diner withy camo on,the waitress asks us what are you hunting?? Crows we say,and all the local antler, pheasant and turkey hunters all laugh and say crows?? What are you guys idiots?? Me and Brian just look at each other and say "good more for us"!!!!!

I did get a little bit of a response so far. Doesn't sound encouraging at this time. This was a response to the assistant of my local rep. Mr. Iannozzi,
The assistant Director of the BWP Tom Grohol forwarded your question regarding the BWP position on electronic decoys from representative Godshall. Currently the use of electronic decoys for furbearing hunting are lawful. There is a proposal forthcoming at the October Commission meeting to authorize the use of electronic decoys for snow geese only in the “conservation Season” which does not overlap with any other season. The BWP would have concerns about any further expansion of the use of electronic decoys primarily from a “fair chase perspective” but also the implications to potentially increasing harvest rates for certain species such as waterfowl during the regular season, However the official agency position on legislative issues is determined by the Executive Director. Please feel free to contact me for further information or questions at 783-6526.
Rich Palmer, Director Bureau of Wildlife Protection Pennsylvania Game Commission
I read you're post, yup, it's hard to beat having a partner that likes it as much as you do. I have been lucky to have had four different partners over the past 36 seasons. I hunted with Boyd Robeson for a little over 20 years, Jim Lundquist for 30 years, Jerry Byroade for 5 years and Dick Kilbane for the last 7 years.
After Boyd died in 2000 and Jim got to old to hunt, I hunted alone for roughly 8 or 9 seasons from 1994 to 2003. Boyd quit due to his health in 1994. That is how Dick and I got to know one another over the years, we both hunted alone for years until we formed a partnership back in 2003.
When Jerry quits due to his bad health problems I will go back to hunting alone until Dick can join me later in the season. Hunting alone never bothered me, but it is more fun with another crow killer in the blind with you!

Bob, You should be proud of yourself to be able to pass these guys you cherished and still be able to go out and hunt them crows alone or with a partner. You should be able to get that next 100,000 with no problem. I meant to ask you how many you are up to now??
