Hey Boys!
               Here is my invention!! My "CROW TREE"  I made it out of 2" p.v.c 2 10' lengths screwd together wih p.v.c. branches, my owl is some 35 years old I bought it from Gander mountain, there is a string that comes out of the owl's chest that makes his wings flap and on the branches I use a mojo crow or a crow buster 11 and regular dekes on the other branches,with the line going back to the blind I can motion the owl when I want, I don't know who makes the owl or I would tell you guy's, but it works pissa!! Maybe Doug can find them!!

Hi Hizzoner,

That is a neat gadget and nice picture...  Crows, your dog, you guys and your "crow tree", very professional, indeed.

We have a Mojo Owl, a FoxPro Jack in the Box with Owl Topper,  and an Edge Expedite Owl (since discontinued).  We like the FoxPro best, but yours would be great to try, if you get it ID'd and they are still made.

Does it work good having the crows lower then the owl on the pole?

I usually hang a dead crow under the owl, the crows usually loose it when I start pulling the string that flaps the owls wings,I've had them "dive bomb" on him and "missed a few too" The rig has been successful so far and works well gunning marshes where there are no trees!!

I bet it would work even better if you put the owl lower than the crows.

I'd use one of them 20 or 40 aac aac's Bob was stationed on if I could! But the 22-50 does fine with a 52grn nosler hp at 3700fps!! INCINERATED!! Feather Central!biggrinbiggrin

Yes getting your crow deeks above the owl is best. Unnatural to see crows intentionally getting themselves in a position where an enemy could do harm. Attached a pic of my "crow pole". Killed a thousand crows or more over this simple setup.

I have a similar flapper owl.  It is a plastic great horned owl.  The bottom has a big "nipple" instead of a hole and I also put it onto 2" PVC.  The only markings I see are
"Made in Italy"
Large Owl 87'
and then a logo that has a diamond in a circle.  
My dad has an old hen turkey decoy made of hard plastic, and if I remember correctly it was a Carrylite made in Italy, so based on that I figure this owl is a carrylite as well.

I have not had that much success with it so far.  Just got it last year at an auction.   I have already overhunted the places I've used it.  It has a white cord that runs out of  the front to flap the wings.  The wings don't flap far.  I really should cut that off and put some camo cord on.  Either way, I just don't like moving too much to flap the wings.   Crows just have such good eyes and I never have a good enough hide to allow movement. 

This year I'm going to do the real feather wings idea I picked here, and hopefully that will help it out.

All the above posts are really better for me to understand that, this crow tree is worth having, but for how long I can use this and from how many crows, you can get rid of.

              I have the same owl, spray the cord dark brown and run camo cord down the tree through a couple of eye bolts and back to your blind,keep the last eye bolt close to the ground, the crows will be focused on the owl and the movement,Its always produced for me!!

           I 've had my tree for years and use it all the time,as far as how many crows you can kill, that depends on how many are around and how they want to decoy,sometimes you have to move around confuse             biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

My crow tree or "crow pole" as I call it is highly portable. I run and gun in the spring with it. Takes only a couple minuites to set up and I'm in action. I use the first crow bagged as a deek below my owl and I'm in buisness! Often shoot 5 or 6 crows from each stand.  Being mobile and travelling light is most important to me when employing the R&G technique. Also I would advise shooting each crow as they come in. Letting a group "boil up" in an angry mob over an owl will net less kills and educate a lot of crows...IMHO.

Hey M12 shooter im new to this so this maybe a dumb question but how do u place the pole in the ground? do u dig a hole ? i was just wondering since you were on the move alot it seems like diggin a hole would take up time. thanks for the info

                        I use a 1-3/4 pipe and drive it in to the ground, same as you would if you were fishing on the surf/beach,and you pipe/tree goes right over it like a sleevesmile

I only use the owl setup in the spring. Ground is usually soft so I simply hit the ground a couple times wth an old axe to allow the pole to be pushed into the ground 6-8 inches. I often strap the setup to a fence post as well. Just be sure the setup is straight as if cantered it will look unnatural.

I've used bamboo to make crow and dove "trees". Old christmas tree stands made out of rebar and a cotton picker tooth. 3 rebar legs with the spike welded in the middle.

       Thats my buddy "AAC-AAC" holding my model 12 3" duck gun,I'm not in the picture,those guy's are some of my gunning buddies. "AAC-AAC" got his nickname cuz he thinks everything is in range! he dosen't pull that sh-t with me anymore. but he surs has killed a lot of "AIR" !!  "I've been using M12's for 35 years and have a selection of them,some shouldn't have made it beyond the gun club! But if it fits and I shoot it good then it goes a field with me! Model 12's and 97's,even a model 50, the old WINCHESTER'S "FEEL LIKE A GUN"

                Are those crows or starlings in that picture? Back in the 70's a flock of starlings put a DC-10 in the bay here in Boston.I had a chance to work for the PORT AUTHORITY shooting "NUISANCE BIRDS"= ANYTHING THAT FLEW,but I opted to go commercial fishing instead. They supplied all the shells you could use,but the pay whacked it!!

Hey Full,,,, I use canada goose wings on mine, check your regs in ur state though,them federal boys like pickin on little things like that, they live by the contacts they write. Lots of people think that troopers and game wardens have quotas they have to make.... Not true, your job evaluation is based on your activity, low activity means lazy cop, high activity means busy cop= good evaluation = promotion = better pay,,,,OK Shane lets find the flappin owl decoy my interest has been sparkedbiggrin
