Youngster and I hit the field again yesterday afternoon. Cloudy and windy, perfect conditions to ambush those big flocks of crows feeding on waist grain.

Crows tolled perfectly into the brisk wind, like on a string allowing me shoot many doubles.

Employed my old Browning Double Auto with light modified barrel. Killed the first nine without a miss but missed a few after that. Many crows almost point blank and attatched a pic of one almost blown on half by shot charge at no further than 20 feet.

Finished the afternoon just shy of two dozen dropped.

You sure butchered that one Ted!

I can tell that particular crow has not been off the nest very long by looking at it's head & neck feathers.

Bob, about 75% of the crow's I shoot this time of the year are young of the season. They are a dull black in color and as you stated their heads are not feathered out very well. Also young birds have much more delicate feet and thinner legs when comparing to the more robust adult birds.

Crows usually fledge here in Southern Manitoba the first week of July. Actually, when I R&G during the summer here I shoot a lot that still have the characteristic wide beak of a fledgeling. Some call this cruel...or "robbing the nest"...but I look at it as "natural selection"! smile.gif
