Hi All Have you ever had a shoot that was just so much fun you cant stop thinking about it? Well I had one today,at FIRE BASE RAVEN (those of you who follow my exploits know why its named RAVEN) I formed up by myself at 5:15 a.m. set up,I did not use my old blind because it needs some work,so I set up about three hundred yards to the south,in a hedge row with my back to the river and the rising sun. I carved out a neat spot in the brush and installed a camo net for my roof, set out the deeks and got ready.I mainly used hand calls all morning because birds were just plain working through the area,I also shot a lot that just decoyed in sliently, trying to be sneaky! It was great, ones, twos, and threes until I left at 10:30 am. Most came in right over the blind, all I did was sit there and shoot the birds above me,the bandits did not see me at all. Of course I missed some easy shots!!! And pulled off a few that scared me!! The bandits were pretty rambuncious at times, I had one Kamakazi into the blind and almost take me out, then I had a bandit (cripple) that broke through the wire in my six oclock,he tried a banzai charge, well that did not end well (for him). I had a blast the weather was gorgeous ,it is no wonder that this is my fravorite time of year! I ended up with 16 out front on the ground, but I dropped most in back off me in the thick brush, and a bunch splased down in the river (raccons are gonna eat good tonite). Thanks all!!!
BANZAI CHARGE!!!!!
KAMAKAZI CROW!!!!

Shane I have a question. I notice in most all of your pics that your speaker has been right out there with your deeks. Most of the times up off the ground. I recently found an old tri pod at good will for 3 bucks and am going to incoporate it into my spread. Have you ever had your speaker flare shy hunted birds??? Man it sticks out there like a diamond in a goats ass...LOL... Now that I got the 24 I just wondered, Hell I can be 500 yards from the thing. I even thought about mounting a deek on top of it. what do you think???
I use the stantions for my WildLife Tech callers because they are loud, sounds better off the ground, and the remotes seem to work better just a bit,for quicker sound changes, I also have them topped with foam or carpet so I dont get any vibration of the speaker bell. Also everyonce in a while i run out and spin the caller in another direction.I have never had birds flare because of the caller, hell a crow dont know what speaker is,and half my fields have junk in them any ways, when birds flare for me its because they have been shot by me before or see movement.
