I had a very small window of time to work with today, so I threw everything in the truck. I was heading to anywhere to do something. Well as I was pulling out onto the road, a possum had been hit. The crows had setup a buffet and were working it. That was the deciding factor as to what I was going to do this morning. I made two turns all in about 2 minutes of the house. After parking the truck I b-lined for the cut over with the hill in the back.

This is what the view looked like.

This put me about 40 feet into the air. The hill has 4 to 5 foot pine trees growing on it . Which I must say made for excellent cover. After turning the magic on things started to move. I guy at work asked me why did I call it magic. I simply told him that I was like magic. Once I turn it on, animals appear. He just laughed, but anyhow.  Being this high made for one hell of a vantage point.  I was able to drop three right away. I had crouched down behind a pine so that the birds would get a little closer. They did. Now I shoot #6 shot out of a steel full choke, with that I had one bird that caught what could have been the full load. He felt my pain. After the shot, there was a ring of dust and feathers still in the air. This was after the bird had hit the ground. It was the dang-est this I have ever seen. A perfect circle . All I could have thought was, SOB where is the video camera. Trust me it was awesome. After about 30 minutes of shooting I was able to drop 6 birds and find three of them. Where most of the birds fell was in the thick stuff.

The Thick Stuff.

The Birds.

The batteries were starting to give out of the magic, so I had to head to the truck. I was not kidding about having a small window of time. So on the way back I had passed a small power line. Now knowing in which direction the birds had flew off kind of gave me an idea. I knew I had enough juice in the caller to get things started and I could finish up with the hand calls. Well it when a little something like this. BANG !!!!! BANG !!!!! BANG !!!!!!!! I dropped two on that run.

The Small Power Line.

The Birds That Wanted To Play.

I was able to drop 8 birds this morning all in about an hour and a half.

Not to bad of a day, if you ask me.

Puppypopper,

Thanks for the great write up. I really enjoyed reading it and it sounds like you had a great hunt. That's beautiful country you have to hunt.

I didn't see any decoys, are you just using an e-caller?

Thanks,

Eric

V : for once I did not use any decoys, which you can ask the guys here, that is something out of the box for me. I am a huge decoying fool. I have been holding onto a hole that I have not even thought about putting any pressure on until Saturday. It turned out pretty good. I used the Foxpro till the battiers started to die. I did not charge it up the night before, so I finished up with the hand calls.

S : Yep, the Black Rain is just something I have come to really enjoy. It is something about taking a beautiful blue sky and turning black and red. Then you get to watch it fall to the ground. It rocks.
