Congrats on the C-note! I use a Steelmaster from MEC on my 10 gauge.
Been pulling the handle on the Dillon 900SL this morning to load up more AA Featherlite "clones" for our controversial "Metro gun" crow work. Amazing how these presses eat up components!
We are working hard to break a hundred, but the crows aren't cooperating, yet. Maybe tomorrow, if this rain lets up.
Hey there GB, thanks. First time ever for us to break a 100. We both broke personal daily high and team high records today. I switched to a 12ga Parker last Sunday afternoon because I can reload 12ga way faster than 10ga.
nhc: Congratulations!!!! The CCC (Crow Century Club) is not only exclusive it is somewhat elusive. Either way, it is an honor to have you and your partner as members. Very nice work, beautiful set up and results!! Thanks for sharning.
When you put 100 on the ground, that satisfies the minimum definition of, "a lot of biomass!" And our pump-action repeating TCP hats are off to our Granite State compatriots for accomplishing that milestone with vintage double barrels! You guys pegged the "Style Meter" with that one!
Is it actually cheaper for you guys to reload your shotshells? I used to reload all of mine back about 8 years ago probably, got to be more expensive to do than just buying cheap factory shells in bulk. Maybe if I buy stuff from the internet it would be cheaper? who knows, good job on the crows!
Yesterday we hit the same spot again, just too many birds to not do that. We put another 52 on the ground by Noon.
Big Honkers, yes the season did an amazing turnaround. We had two months of sub average shooting and then it turned 180 degrees with the biggest migration we have seen.
Puppypopper, saw your CB Century Club logo, well done, very clever of you.
Dano yes reloading is less expensive than factory shells. However you have to compare apples to apples. The cheap 4 packs sold at Wal-Mart or the cheap Remmy Game Loads sold by Dick's do not compare in performance to AA's or STS trap loads. My reloads use quality components with hard shot (vs. the chilled shot in the cheap shells). For the antique 10ga reloading is the only way to go, $7.50 a box for reloads vs. $30 for RST 2 7/8" 10ga. My 12ga reloads run $4.90 a box using hard #6 and if I were to use 7.5's it would be $4.20 a box (1 1/8) as a bag of lead is less for that size. AA or STS are running at least $7 a box.
This has probably been asked before...but.. Do you leave all your dead bodies in the field while you're there shooting? I have always left the dead ones lay and some people think they should be picked up becuase they scare/deter incoming crows. I haven't been sold on picking them up. Always seem if I run out to pick one up...then 3 bust me.
Thoughts?
OH, and congrats on the 100+ day. What is a "normal" day for you? Here in NW PA, Watch Em and I only get around 5-10 (2-3 hour hunt). We had one of our best last Sunday with 14. If the set up would have been a little better (too many overhanging limbs) we would have been in the 20's easily. Which would be awesome for us. The only way we'll ever have a 100 plus day is to leave PA and hunt a huge roost somewhere.
Welcome to the Century Club! Good too see you guys piling them up but I must admit it makes me a bit envious as most of the crows in my region have now departed. I have to now live my crow hunting life through this forum
As for dead crows spooking incomers, I must say that I rarely pick up many shot ones and have never found dead scattered around to be detremental to a shoot. I do however throw some up into the tree tops if they are bare of leaves.
Most of my higher volume shoots occure in the late summer and early fall when crops and cover are still tall and still green. Shot crows just dissapear into the cover and I rarely pick them up...just a few now and then for a photo
Good hunting guys!
Ted

My experience has been dead birds add and enhance the decoy spread. They seem to bring the birds in more aggressively and cawing. If a bird crashes outside of shotgun range we do run out and bring it into the decoy spread. One dead one more than 50 yards away has a tendency to cause any incoming birds to hang up over it instead of coming into range.
Thanks on the Congrats. Seriously I never thought a 100 bird day was possible in NH. The crow hunting Gods have smiled on us this year. A normal or average two man 4 hour hunt produces 30 birds give or take 10 this time of year.
there's your powder wads and shot bout 900-1100 rds in there got a cat litter bucket with bout 300 not pictured all crow medicine. Reloads.
JD, ok that's enough shells for ME. But what are WE going to use for shells after lunch. LOL. Those Active shells bring back old memories. We use to shoot them back in my younger years. What kind of load recipe are ya reloading in them?
Actual activ data from aliant powder red dot claybuster fed 12s3 wads fed primer 6 shot in them just because I run out of 7.5 &8 had no real use for the bag of 6 chilled I got for free so I used it up 1200 fps roughly got 550+ once fired activ hulls 2-3/4 looking for more !!! Hint hint love em easer to find in the leaves and grass than them damn rem nitro or gunclubs ( gold and. Green ) some one needs to make neon hulls easy to spot.
I origionaly got them for turkey hulls but got some fed wad samples from claybuster wads and tried em and wow do they seem to work.
