Crowtec
Well i say any size shot up close like that will work
Hi Skip, i believe this great day was in May 2005. The field had just been sown with grass seed, making a welcome change in diet for the crows, from the usual pig feed they tend to eat. I used my Hatsan escort 3 shot, but i hasten to add.. i have now seen the light, and use a Browning Maxus!!
I used Whitegold 7.5 in 32 grams. The patterns in my Hatsan are not good, so i used full choke.
Jsun: I think your shotguns are limited to 3 shots and are not even capable of shooting more. Is this the case? If so, your Maxus must not come with a plug.. just two in the mag..and one in the chamber?
Still a fine picture and TBC... hope you can pile up another bunch soon..
Skip, my maxus has the tube crimped, so it can only take two and one in the chamber. But, we can have a 5 shot if we apply for a seperate firearms certificate. We have to give "Good reason" to justify a 5 shot. Woodpigeon shooting is good reason due to the high numbers that usually come into the decoys.. These were the first kills with my maxus..
Now that...is a fine picture!!! Please tell us a little about the Wood Pigeon... and can you hunt crows and wood pigeons over the same blind/setup? As for the Maxus, I do not think the U.S. of that gun.. has the name "maxus" in white. What size shot do you typically use for crows and pigeons.. if I can ask? And are they decoyed.. or pass shooting.. or feeding set up?
The woodpigeon is Englands major agricultural pest, as you see in the picture, they gorge themselves on wheat, barley, maize, oilseed rape etc.. Flocks can range from a dozen to several hundred. The most productive way of hunting them is to use decoys as a feeding set up. You can also wait in a wood for them to come in to roost, known as "Roost shooting" They can be shot amongst crows, in fact if they see crows feeding, that will give them confidence to come in as well. Thier feathers are much denser than crows, and we typicaly use #6 shot, but 7.5's will bring them down...
