Im looking for something that resembles the cabelas vortex system for crows. It's basically 2 crow decoys in the flying position with one attached to a rod on one side and the same for the other and the motor spins the decoys around and around. However I am not able to find anything on the internet. I saw this in a youtube video and it looked like a good idea. Any thoughts, comments, or concerns ??
Also i was thinking about making a light weight portable blind like the one doccerny made. I have a ton of pasture land with fence rows but no cover and that would be a great set up but dont have welding equipment. Thanks
25 years ago I hunted with a fella from Wisconsin who had a home made version of exactly what you are talking about. He had a spare tire riged up so it held the verticle pole upright to support the two crows going round and round like a merry go round. He had a small moter to operate this unit that was battery powered.
It looked nice but it didn't give him the edge he desired. He didn't kill anymore crows when he used it, plus it was bulky and took up to much room in the bed of the truck. If it had worked like he wanted it to I would have made room for it myself!
I have been seeing more spinning winged crow decoys going up for sale on e-bay, they might work very well for waterfowl but crows are much smarter than waterfowl.
Technology that is used for hunting can be both good and bad. The idea might sound great and look great to you & I but it also must look great to the crows if you plan on shooting any significant amount of them.
I suppose it depends on what a guy thinks is significant? One crow hunter might think a dozen crows is great while another crow hunter might think it's not so great while using some of the motion decoys on the market today.

Texas Matt, Lone Star Phil and I modified a Cabela's Vortex for crow decoying. It looked cool and worked OK, but just like Bob said it was bulky and didn't work any better than 1 or 2 flapping decoys in a spread of 3 to 6 GHG magnum crow deks.
It was not the game changer we thought it might be.
If you want a motion decoy it's hard to beat one of these flapping bats for both low price and ease of carry. Runs on two AA's. Just wrap the head in electrical tape to hide the lighted eyes. You can hot glue a spring on the battery cover to place it on a dowel or use a piece of coat hanger wire to hang from a tree limb. I keep one of these, a dowel and a spare set of batteries in each of my caller bags.
These guys are right, they dont work that well for crows, they do work great for pigeons though. All the guys in Europe use them, check out PIGEON MAGNETS. I am making one now from a wind shield wiper motor, for this springs pigeon safaris.
As far as blinds I have steel poles in my truck all the time,I just bang them in the ground and throw camo netting on it,it will get you through till you find a blind you like.
For motion I use the Jackite, the Buster (modified),Wounded wood pecker painted black and I am getting one of those bats that NH posted.
