Anyone having trouble finding components ? powder & shot mainly, but also having to search for rem sp20 wads. I'm in upstate NY & it's getting difficult to find these things locally. I don't mind ordering wads & hulls online, but midway nails you with a $25 hazmat fee on powder & primers. Seems like most of the shops in my area, rather than deal with all the regs on powder storage, just opt out of carrying it. Just curious if it's happening all over, or if it's just a NY problem, which would'nt surprize me. Jerry
where in upstate are you. I amy be able to help you find a few places. there is a guy who sells powder in williwanna pa. and there is a few places down twords elmira and horseheads.
Yes right on the pa border. I am west of binghamton about 10 miles. If you had a bunch of stuff to buy it may be worth a trip down. pm me if you want phone numbers or anything like that.
Seeing this subject... reloading shotshells.. reminded me to post something I have been meaning to but just could not remember to do so. Call it old-timers, etc.
Those of you who reload shotshells and have done so for a long time probably know this but might be worthy of mention anyway.
Around 2003 WW changed their shotshell manufacturing over to all 3-piece hulls....the popular ( I shot many of them ) "AA" shell went from being compression formed to a 3-piece hull adding a base wad that mimicked the interior dimensions of a compression formed hull. I suspected then and now that this was a cost cutting move by WW but do not actually know. Anyway, this change caused concerns of the base wad being left in the bbls and the like...and their market share of the competitive clay target world went away. I do not know IF they have changed back recently to original.. perhaps someone does.
Here is my thoughts on the aa hulls Yes they have been known to come apart I think it was a wad design that has been changed I think this was happening because cheap reloaders that we some times can be were trying to load light reloads and by loading let's say less than an ounce of shot would put powder volume low in the hull putting the wad down inside the base wad design. When fired it was wedged in there and draggin the base wad out. I my self load em once or twice and pitch em or use them in the winter with a auto loader so I don't loose all my good hulls. They are still designed as a multi piece hull so buy rem and get thoes unibody hulls. Better piece of mind. This is all my own opinion
