The first couple of photos with the snow cover were taken after I slipped on the ice and didn't even know I had a broken rib until I started to stiffen up the next day. This was last month, it's 3 degrees below zero in Hutchinson right now, forget it, I'm throwing another log on the fire!

How long have you had the new truck Bob? The dirt makes it look better.

Love seeing the pics.

They lead me to a question. I'm just getting started, and this may seem elementary to some, but how do you get those decoys so high up in the trees?

Hey come on now BH, I get kind of touchy when you talk about me and dirt: the reason is because the older I get the closer I get to being planted 6 feet under "in the dirt" lol.

I got the truck last june, had it 7 months now. Since I put a lot of miles on them, 18,000 miles a crow season now, I trade them every two years. Back in the old days I could buy a truck two years old and keep it for 10 to 12 years, just run the tires off of it. But in those days it was all local hunting, I never ventured more than 45 miles from my home.

Hi Bob....thanks for the welcome and the answer.

I just got an electronic caller, and started doing searches on coyote and crow hunting and came across your site. Seems a lot of people out there refer to your site as the place to find answers for crow hunting. It appears they are all correct!!

I was thinking of throwing a weight with fishing line tied to it over a high branch and then pulling the decoy up high and tying the line off, but then if there was any wind, it would twist around and not be sitting on a branch.

I cant tell from your pics...how are they secured to the tree? Some kind of clip?

Duxrok,

There is an eyelit on the crows back, I have a wire in a C shape and just hang them like a Christmas ball on a Christmas tree!.

Bob,

Are those Hemlock branches you have draped over your blind?

Hi Kev,

Those are cedar branches or what some people call evergreen trees.

Bob,

Oh OK, I was just curious . I was just wondering if you had Hemlock trees down there. Up here we do, as well as White Cedar, Fir, Spruce, Larch, and several species of Pine.

Hi BH,

I very much doubt I will reach 200,000 but I never figured I'd reach 100,000 either! There is a big difference between 100,000 and 200,000.

With a little luck I might hit the 140,000 mark by the end of this season; that is since I started to keep records from clear back to October of 1974.

If I never shot another crow in my life I figure I've killed my share of them! But..... I ain't done yet!

At first I thought you were talking about miles on your truck...and I thought that didn't seem all that high....but.......then I realized you meant CROWS! HOLY COW!

Seriously, you must be the top Crow-Grinder in history! That is a LOT of crows. I'm surprised there are any left for the rest of us. HAHA!

Wow! .......just WOW!

Hello Duxrok,

I've made my own luck in the respect that as a young guy I knew what I wanted to do at a young age. I flat picked up and moved from the east coast to Kansas back in 1974 just for the crows! In short, I moved to where the birds were, it was the best move I ever made!

I have some very good memories of past shoots over the last 37 years out here.

Tomorrow the head sports writer from the Kansas City Star is coming to Hutchinson to interview me about the crow hunting over the years. He wants to take some pictures of my crow museum.
