Doug, Gordon & I used four Busters at a time and shot a little over 600 crows in 3 days with them. Doug hung em in the trees.

Hi DJ2,

While you can hang your Buster II from a branch, that approach will sometime obscure your decoy. Based on a tip from JimB, we like to use those hummingbird feeder stands from Tractor Supply and other stores.

Here is a photo of my "black" Edge Expedite Wounded Woodpecker on one adjacent to my Mojo Hawk: (This make crows pretty mad!)

Outstanding 'display' and one that is insured of capturing the attention of any crows in the immediate area.

By the way, is that a male raptor decoy?!

Busters are good,but you should wire in a switch and about 30'-0 of wire so you can turn it on and off,this will save batterys and triple the life of Buster. In fact the CT Crow used a old flashlite with D size batts for his remote switch!! biggrin

I used to have one, it worked well. I used it my putting it on the short stake on the edge of the other decoys.

I have one and used to use it all the time. I would keep it out in the open to assure visibility. I would find a limb that was about 10 foot tall and dig a hole so it would lean at about a 45 degree angle then hang buster from the limb with fishing line. That way buster would swing side to side as it flapped away.

Yes and it seemed to work fine that way, too. I used to use a Flying Cow toy, mixing in with static decoys, and showed pictures of it on the old CB board. It also worked. I think the "flapping" wing action is key.

Hi BH,

Good tip on hanging a flapper. When you alligator clip a Wounded Woodpecker on a stand, you do lose the side to side action.

The small body size is supposed to screw with their depth perception and bring them in closer.

The buster is a great decoy but I have yet to have one last a full season, have had two or three I cant remember hmm

why dont they last a full season? we took it out today to a spot we have hunted twice, birds are starting to know it, took 4, had a hawk come down and hit a deke right next to the buster! it did deffinately help keep their attention longer though

The buster II decoy is a great realistic attention getter, I have a couple of them and use them all the time in my spread, for the maintenance part of it I have found that taking the busterII apart and greasing the motion gears with white lithium grease when buster sounds like he is getting louder while in motion will greatly increase the life of the motor. I have many hours on mine and both are still working like new.

Used Buster with great success, but broke it the 3rd time out. Have tried about everything to fix it, but no success yet. The connector piece holding the wing strut in place broke and it is out of commission. Anyone else have this issue that could offer a good fix?

I have never done this to a buster, but I have repaired plastic by "welding" it back together with a soldering iron and a piece of plastic.

or you could try 'ruffing'up the broken edges w some sand paper and mix up some JB WELD epoxy and coat both edges with a small amount-dont over do it . let it set over night and just to be on the safe side apply a second thin coat over the top of that.you should be good to go.that stuff is tuff.

ive been thinkin about gettin a buster myself but im tired of buyin 'crap'that either doesnt work or it works great but breaks even better.the thing i was wondering about- is if the wings come off to store away for easier transport.if not im wondering how u guys lug it around without smashin it up.was that what took yours out of comission Crahnx???

The wings fold up. Its is recommended you keep it in a Tupperware type box. I keep mine in an old scope box along with extra battiers and a screwdriver. You need to keep the gears lubed and it last fairly well as far as I can tell. My buddy just replaced his after three years of use. The motors can be replace for a couple of bucks if needed. The hobby shops here carry them. The good that they add to your spread far outweigh the negatives as far as I am concerned.

I had this same problem after one year of use. I did fix it successfully and it is still working but I do not use 'ole buster too much anymore.

I think I used a small piece of a handle from an old car battery, drilled the proper size hole, and kept grinding and grinding the piece smaller and smaller until it fit properly. Not sure, but I think I used super glue and a clamp to keep everything together.

The process was a pain and took a lot of tinkering to fix.

Crowbusters:
re. Buster Decoy - if you take care of them they will usually last more than one season. Greasing the gears can help with longevity as well. I test every one before sending it out.
With that test, I have culled out ones that are too noisy (to my ear)...they work fine just too noisy. If you would like one of those "culls" for parts or to take apart and grease the gears call me at Crowmart...$15 to your door.
