As a new guy I know this has probably been put on before but I would like your opinions.  We all have our own experiences and each and every one of these calls below can be HOT in the right situation, depending on the landscape, the day, the hunter, the mood of the birds, etc....

Option 1:  IF SOMEONE RESTRICTED YOU TO " 1 CALL"  AND ANY AMOUNT OF DECOYS.  WHICH CALL WOULD YOU PIC?

Option 2:  IF YOU HAD "ZERO" DECOYS AND HAD TO HEAD TO THE WOODS WITH "1 CALL" WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE?

Crow Distress
Crow/Owl Fight
Crow Reveille
Excited Crow
Fighting Crows
Crow & Hawk Fight
Crow Frenzy
Crow Come Here

Thanks!

Crow distress was my #1 pic as well.  They get so hostile on that one biggrin

Don't get the wrong idea I like a good all out gun fight with the black rain but prefer the lay up shots of a decoying floater at 35 yards.

Hi Brian,

Good question - I would use the JS Owl and Crow Fight for both options.  I think that the changes in volume from the low owl hooting building up to the big loud fight and then repeat, makes all of the difference.

Regards,

Gadget Bob

"crow come here" for me everytime. im surprised at the answers. i always figured "fighting" would b to aggressive & used only for after they been shot at. i need to step out my comfort zone & try something new. lol

I use crow come here on a feeding setup. But if all the decoys are in the trees, then a fighting, distress, excited would work. Mind you, I don't get a lot of big number days.

Given your choices, I would take CROW DISTRESS in both cases.

HOWEVER, it isn't what works best up here in Maine. For me, YOUNG CROW  and DYING CROW will work better.

The CROW/HAWK and the CROW/OWL sounds never work for me, even with owl decoy.

I got one little patch of woods that owl fight always brings in a few for a quick hit. The go to call is the distress. I try to use others first and save that one for last.

Crow Come Here is one of the best sounds made and works great for a "field setup" (dekes)...But if I was Running & Gunning...I'll stick mainly to aggressive type calling (Crow Fight or Crow Distress/Young Crow).

All would work but I'm partail to Crow Come Here over decoys. I would suggest mixing in mouth calls with any sound you use. A couple good strong notes from a mouth call mixed in seems to take any electronic sound to new heightswink! We almost never use crow/owl because I believe where we hunt that is the calling sound most used by other hunters, so we try to do something else. Run and gun crow fight and mix in crow distress with your mouth call.

Thanks for all the info guys. Learning Learning.....from you....

I'm so hooked on crow distress these days.  I need to break away and go for the playful feeding frenzy for the crack of dawn.

Maybe break out distress / death cry at 9AM after a ton of blasting.

I'm going to post a video and pics of my Michigan opener.  I won't make it out until Saturday the 5th of Feb. But I will deliver biggrin

I like to mix up my distress calls, and I've found that the "baby crow" sounds  are kinda like a sick/injured crow.. I have used it with success.

I have a Foxpro Firestorm which only came with "Crow Fight," "Stuggling Crow," and "Dying Crow." I mainly use "Crow Fight" with good succuess. I am new to this and am wondering if "Stuggling Crow" is the same as "Distess Crow." I appreciate everyones input. Thanks

I think both are similar, however any time you can use a sound they have yet to hear. plus since it's a foxpro you can always add sounds. I would also recommend a hand call to mix it up and add sound to e-caller.
