Great First Run N' Gun Trip!!!!

I started out at daylight hunting a flyway into the pecan orchard. Pictured it 37, I picked up three more on the way out. I left another 17 in the treeline. Ran out of shells.confuseI only took 3 boxes and a piece to the field with me. no

Packed up and started the R n' G trip. First set, walked too far form the truck. No decoys, birds were scattered and spooky.  Killed 1 Gonna try decoys next set.

Set 2. 2 decoys and Buster. 0 birds.

Set 3. 1 decoy and Buster. 5 birds

Set 4. Batteries died so no hunt on this set. Back to house to charge batteries that I SHOULD HAVE CHARGED YESTERDAY!!!!nonono

Picked up Noah (8 yr old son), Quick charge battery and headed to a new WMA.

Set 5. One buster. Leaving all else in truck. I killed 8. Noah 2.biggrin

Set 6. One buster. 1

Set 7. One buster. I killed 3. Noah 1.biggrin

Set 8. One buster. I killed 1.

Set 9. 0 birds. starting to rain and getting dark. head home.

Set 5-9 were made in less than 2 hours. I don't think that was too bad for two newbies.

I shot 5 boxes of shells and killed 79. Noah shot 7 times and killed 3. biggrinbiggrin He is getting much better. All three were birds crashing through the canopy. Tough shots. Great shooting for a little fellow!!!!

Lessons I learned about R n' G.
1. A buster helps set the shot and keeps their eyes occupied.
2. No other decoys needed and just slow you down.
3. Small clearings in the middle of Large Pines are not as desirable.
4. Need to add a wireless mic to my home-brew. The wire SUCKS in thickets.
5. Birds weaving in and out of the oaks just of the deck and on afterburners trying to get to the fight really gets the blood pumping!!!biggrin

Pictured is the morning set. I used a wild boar skin for a feeding set. The other is a pic of the blind.

Thanks for all the advice y'all gave me on R n' G hunting. It paid great dividends.

Hey 12,

There is a burlap strip in the back but it probably wasn't needed. I did that this morning in the dark. It took less that an hour to set up. Got there about 05:45 and still had time to read a little Scripture before the first shots. Got to love a little quite time with the Creator at daylight! It was cloudy and foggy so they were a little late for breakfast. smile

great job, sounds like u had a great time, thx for the pics I was starting to forget what grass looks like. We have enough snow on the ground that I can't get into my favorite spot because of the snow banks from the plows, Jerry
