Had a good weekend.

Made a couple of short hunts this weekend and managed a total of 44. I shot better that I ever have with longer shots and more quartering away kills than I have been able to make. Shorting up the lead on those long birds definitely helped. The close birds are still point and click and works just like it always does. Only have a couple of shots missed that I wish I could do over. Most misses were long birds.

I sky busted one that was strait up. He had to pack a lunch just to make it back to earth. It came down screaming and missed my partner by about a foot. It hit the ground squawking and flopping around in the blind with him. It was pretty comical. I told him Merry Christmas. He seemed less than impressed. smile

Some of my better shoots have been short totally impromptu affairs as you describe. Nothing like spur of the moment loading up the truck with a shotgun, couple boxes of shells and caller to be back home a couple hours later with a couple dozen crows under your beltsmile

glad that 'lead' is tightin up for ya.i'll never 4get a newbie at the gun club was havin a hard time learnin how to shot skeet and he was takin advise from everyboby.alot of guys would tell him ''your shootin behind em' give em' more lead.'' i just happened to be standin behind him one time and noticed that he was puttin a country- mile of lead on every bird. and i just happened to mention, Do you realize how far in front of the birds you are shooting? Try bringin that down to about the length of your gun barrel. he was amazed when he started breakin birds.most people just assume I NEED MORE LEAD,but some times its like your experience and its like somebody turned on a light bulb. DANG i've  been shootin in front of em' not behind em'.comin from a dove huntin background i have to be really careful or i'll do the same thing. those darn doves fly so much faster (then most crows) i'll swing right on past the crows and have to put on the brakes.and then you end up with a DEAD GUN and thats the worst.its had to get it goin again.keep up the good shooting.i wish i could get into that many birds.i went 4 for 8 this weekend.still figuring the whole thing out.
