Shooting them witha rimfire...best methods?

Hello all...brand spankin new here and brand new to crow calling as well. Although I am fairly well at callling coyotes, I feel I still have alot to learn...so a little experience.

Anyhow, I'm hunting with a Ruger 10/22 for now. My area that I hunt is deep woods (Lodgepole Pine)  and is devoid of plats or crops as its in the mountains with lots of snow. There are a few crows around though.

What would you recommend for setup? Of course I will need them to land within 100 yards...how do I go about this? Do I absolutely need decoys? ( I'm going to by a few either way) I'll add that I have a homemeade (non-remote) ecaller with a few crow sounds.

Thanks for the help...very informative site here...read, read, read!

Find a field set up a feeding area and sniper style em. I've also spot and stalked em. By seeing em eating in a field and using woods to get close enough. 100 yards ? It's more exciting to try for feet. Good luck.

Hi CF Two One,

I suggest you upgrade to a .17 rimfire.  Then you eliminate hold over issues to past 100 yards.  I prefer the .17M2 because it is quieter.

You will need to hide very well and with good calling, they will land to investigate.

Good Luck and Good Hunting,

Gadget Bob

Saw this this morning. YOu can convert your 10/22 over to .17hm2. I have one, and will be picking up a heavy barrel Savage to use as a crow gun, and maybe a Ruger Charger to convert also.

crossfox21,

I see that you are from Oregon, you’re going to want to check your state hunting regulations for hunting crow. Oregon does not allow the use of rifles or handguns for taking crows. Bummer!! Just thought that you would want to know this.

I will pop them with a good sling-shot and a bag of white marble's.  The white marble's are like tracers.  My motto "pop-a-crow" any way you can!!!!!!!!biggrin

I was surprised to find that out also, I don’t understand why Oregon restricts the use of rifles for taking crows.

I am fairly new to crow hunting, I live in Minnesota and have taken a few crow with rifle (204 Ruger Savage 10 Predator Hunter) & shotgun. I do enjoy sniping crows!!

I hope that you still get out to blow away a few crows with a shotgun...
