Charles and I went out today, I just got home an hour ago.
We had the best day ever for just the 2 of us. We setup in one spot, in a gravel pit. We put the decoys on the ground about 35 yds in front of us with the FoxPro. We climbed up on top of a gravel pile and dug into the snow. We were wearing all white and piled snow in front of us to hide more.
We ended up killing 28 crows together. This may not seem like a lot for some of you, but we're pretty excited about it. We saw anywhere from 1,000-3,000 crows. Many couldn't hear the caller or couldn't see our decoys. Lots of trees around us. Tons of them that DID come in, stayed up too high to shoot.
Out of the 28 the we shot at least half of them took a nose dive and buried themselves in the snow when they hit. Quite comical.

This spot is the only spot under this flyway that we have permission for. The problem is, this gravel pit is down very low, about 75' below the surrounding land. Plus the height of the tree around it. So when the crows are flying along, to get down to where our decoys and caller are, they must fly way down in there. MOst didn't.
It helped to be up on that mound, that raised us about 25 feet. What we're going to try next time is to put our dekes on that mound, behind that mound is another taller hill. We're going to get on this taller hill whicj is about 50 feet up. Hopefully that will put us nice and close to the majority of the crows.

Thanks man! It was funny to watch them hit and sink...... One of them was almost completey buried, I didn't get a pic because it was back behind the mound and to get to it would have been another hike through the deep snow.
Kev, I personally like the shorter barells, just what I'm used to I guess. My favorite choke is imp/mod, I have a couple for my daly sxs, but can't find one for my 870, haven't looked real hard, but remington dosen't offer one. Jerry

I like the short barrels too. I have a great old Mossberg 500A with a 24" barrel. Love it. But this Remington has such a better grip, MUCH thinner than the Mossberg's.

Absolutely. I would still be using my Mossberg if it weren't for the grip feeling like a piece of firewood. That Mossberg has never caused me any trouble through al the years of using it. Shame it doesn't take 3.5" shells. (Although I didn't use too many of those 3.5" during duck season this year. Even shot my eese with just 3")
