My best individual hunt
Permalink

This year the weather here in Ga has sucked but last week it dried out so I went to mybest buddy the farmer where I have hunted for the last 6 years to see the condition of my corn fields. It was about 1 in the afternoon and there had to be at least 500 crows in his field. He had just spread chicken manure and I have never seen so many birds ther in the middle of the day. Well I just happen to have the material in my car to set up my blind for the next morning hunt. I will try and post pics never done that before. I never really have a chance to seet up the blind so the crows fly into the wind becasue I usually set it up myself and have to do the majority of the work the day before. The birds the next morning were goming with the wind for about 75 % of the day. I got out to the blind at 6:45 and set up 2 deks in the trees above the blind. I put my motion dekls about 30 yds from the blind and put out about 10 on the ground. I had about a dozen more but at 70 years old I just can not do it the way I did 10 years ago.
Well I killed at least 40 as you will see in the  pics there are 30 lined up and at least 10 were hit and died or fell out of the range of the blind. There was a water ditch about 80 yds in front of me and the wounded birds all those that I could not kill without running after them went to the hedge row so they did not bother my set up. Two almost hit me in the head fell straight into my blind . Total kill was the best ever here in Ga. Ran out of 12 ga and killed 3 more at 1:30 in the afternoon with my 60 year old Browning a 5 20 ga. That really was the frosting on the cake. Took me an hour to break down my set up. Fortunately I could drive the car within 20 yards. I just had to do this one by myself!!! It was a great day.

Just to add a note. I used and have used for three years the motion crows by heart decoys. They mount on top of 1 inch conduit and flying with wings flapping fast in circle. Then under that I tied a flapping bird so it looks like it wounded. They are great for drawing down birds to see whats up. Blind is made of 1inch cdonduit and ione inch pvc pipe. Very easy to set up. The camo netting is US Army to cover a tank. Buddy gave ne the whole thing. I kissed him. LOL
