Any of you crow busters also trap??

After getting into crow hunting and loving it, I have a new found interest in all nuisance animals and trapping. I am researching trap types and sets for beaver and nutria. I have lots of access to healthy populations of these.

I know several of y'all hunt yotes. Just curious if any of y'all trap or hunt other nuisance? Got to get a fix somehow now that the crow season is closed here.

BTW... Which flippin' liberal's idea was it to put a season on crows anyway????confuse Sorry! I relapsed there for a second and was twitching. Don't know what came over mefurious

I hate having a season on crows. I have tons of birds in the area right now but when the Season opens here on the 14th they are gonna be scarce, happens every year. And no I don't trap right now, but good luck with your endeavor.

8 you can still get out and help your local farmer, with woodchucks, pigeons, and rats,
I use an air gun for rats and some pigeon shooting.
I used to trap, last season was 1980,mushrats,coon and mink, you have to have it in your blood. When I was youger it was an adventure, when your you have a full time job its tough to get up at 3.00 am to walk around in a swamp checking traps. I sold all of my traps to one of my buddies. Now you can not trap in Mass. with any trap but a box type trap.

That's a shame you can't trap anymore in Mass. I have been reading some trappers manuals and I was very surprised at the role it played in our nations history. It was the driving industry here for about 200 years before agriculture took over. Everything hinged on the fur trades. One article said New York started as a trading post. Hard to believe.

I plan to start small and focus on beaver. We have LOTS of beaver. I may do a little yote hunting as well. Here in Mississippi, fox, nutria, beaver, hogs, skunks, yotes, can be hunted or trapped year round. Hog can be hunted with NO caliber restrictions day or night.

Shane,

We don't have woodchucks, The only thing that really burrows here is armadillo. Very few pigeons around also. How do you hunt rats?? That sound like fun for a 8 year little boy and his dad!!

Frog season opens here first of Apr. That's a lot of fun For the kiddos. Last year we had LOTS of close encounters with wild creatures. All or the following we had within 20' of us.  Bobcat, fox, coon, armadillo, possum, deer, lots of birds of the night like herons and owls, beaver, nutria, cotton mouth, copper head, mud snake, rat snake, banded water snake, diamondback water snake, a greater siren, and more alligators that you can shake a stick at. BTW, If you poke an alligator with the boat paddle, he will fill the boat with water and soak the kids!!! HeHeHebiggrin

ive done a little trapping over the years on the weekends. i always had 3 or 4 legtraps & a live trap. this jan. & feb. we trapped hard with 1 leg trap, 2-110 connibears, 1-220 connibear, & 3 live traps. we wound up with 15 possums, 6 coons, 1 bird, 1 skunk, & 1 bobcat. we shot a rabbit & a coyote for the collection. & found a roadkill mink. we sold them today around memphis, tn. coons brought $20, possums brought $2, & the mink brought a $1. im getting the bobcat mounted & we tanned the coyote ourselves.

my favorite catch this year

my nephews favorite

Yeah I trap nuisance beaver. We don't have as many here right now (severe drought) as we normally do. Don't bother trying to learn about catching nutria...you'll get them in your beaver sets anyway. The main thing they are good at is stopping up a beaver set. Go to Trapperman.com and it's all there for ya.
