Seeing the peanuts in Skips post made me think of this again. What all have y'all found a crow carring. We have found lots of pecans. One had about 10 acorns laying on the ground and in its mouth and the craw was FULL of them. It was so full they fell out when it hit the ground. The strangest thing so far was a half eaten crawfish. How bout y'all??

Switch to number 6 shot for better first shot results biggrin

Why? Is it more knock down power? I patterned 6, 7 1/2, and 8 out of my gun on a piece of note book paper at 30 yards and noticed that 6's had the least amount of pellets on the paper by a huge margin which caused me to shy away from #6's. But I do get a lot of cripples that need a second shot.

shot 1 by a dump & it died with a chicken wing still in it's beak. I agree with NH 5s & 6s, especially in handloads drops em clean, very few cripples.

If the number 6 pattern is too thin on the pattern board tighten up the choke constriction or increase the payload or both. However light loads with tight choke will produce a pattern that no crow can live through if centered.

Do you see a crow surviving the shot below? It's 7/8 ounce of number 6 from a 20ga.

I've seen 'em swoop down in the Bojangle's parking lot and get a french fry and take off with it.

Was on a hunt 2 years ago and had a couple fly over.  Took a shot at one who I could see had something in his mouth.  Well, I missed but he dropped something which I later recovered.  It was a piece of red squirrel skin.  Never have had a crow drop his lunch before.

Interesting topic.

I love shooting crows with stuff in their mouths.  I usually shout out something like "No soup for you!" when I connect with a food transporting bandit.

The strangest thing I have recovered from a crows mouth was a nearly whole smiley potato crisp thingy.  They are pictured below.  I remember the shot and I could see on the birds approach that there was something big in its mouth.  The bandit worked great and gave me a nice over head shot at about 20 yards.  I poofed 'em and the bird fell about 5 yards left of the blind and the smiley potato got knocked out of his mouth and landed almost within arms reach of the blind.  The bird had pecked out one of the smiley's eyes but the rest remained intact.

No soup for you!

I watched a crow pick up 4 french fries in a Hardees parking lot, fly to a nearby tree limb, remove 3 of the fries from his mouth, hold them with his foot and procede to carefully eat them one at a time. Yes, I reached for my gun that was not there when he flew up towards the tree as a french-fry laden dead crow would have made a great picture.

Peanuts and pecans.. are the only items I have ever found in a deceased crow's mouth.

1/3 slice of pizza. After being shot the crow took it all the way down to the ground. He was eating at a campground about 1/4 mile a way heard the caller and came screaming in. Greedy crow.
