All this debating is informative and fun. I say put a  28 gauge in Skip Woody's hands loaded with any shell you choose and he would out shoot most of us with any gun we own. As I have said it is more who is shooting than what they are shooting. Again some good info, but no one will change their ways will they?

Talent is important but it cannot overcome physics. I'll take the bet, give Skip or anybody else that 28ga, I'll take a 10 or 12, we shoot 27 yard trap and see what happens.

He also never gave a time frame or number of shots before "being out shot" was determined... skip has as long as he needs to school anyone with the 28. biggrin

None of us are professional crow hunters.  At least I don't think any of us are.  We may be in our own mind.  But trying to get someone to change what they are shooting, what shot size they are using, how they are shooting, etc. isn't going to happen.  It's like trying to make a Ford guy like Chevy or converting a conservative to a liberal or Catholic to Protestant or Bud Light to Miller Light, etc.....  You get my drift.  

Go out, enjoy not being at work, being in the outdoors, maybe hanging with your hunting partner or your kids, having fun, laughing, etc.  That's what it's all about.

Why not shoot at from 15 to 25 yards and see what happens?

Because Bob, the challenge here was he could whoop us using a 28ga. My point was talent cannot overcome physics. A "master of the gun" using a 28ga is still limited by what a 28ga can do and it cannot compete at extended range with a big bore. I have never seen Skip shoot nor have you or he seen me shoot. I would be inclined to a friendly competition on a skeet field for the fun of it. Let the other shooter use a 28ga and I'll use a 12ga skeet gun. We go 100 targets. I'm feel pretty confident that gives me a several target advantage before we even start shooting.

In shotguns, size matters.

Clays or feathers a man using a 10 or 12 has an edge over a shooter with a sub gauge.

NH,

Watch em Fall said he thought Skip could out shoot "most guys" not everyone with a 28 gauge. I'm sure there are many people who would like to take that bet 28 vs 12 gauge. It would be a suckers bet to be sure, but I will say this, I have seen Skip Woody shoot first hand. He is a very fine wing shot, quite adept to say the least. I shared a crow hunt with him 9 years ago where we shot 1,545 crows together in 5 1/2 days of hunting.

I was only trying to make the point that there is no substitute for skill, I don't care what you shoot. My point was also to make everyone see that if I picked NH's 10 double he shoots well, I may not be able to hit 1 crow, Hell I might not hit anything for several shots. To close shoot whatever the hell you like, I wasn't trying to get a shooting contest started. I guess I now no what it means to be taken out of context. I will refrain from trying to suggest being a good shot means you would kill more birds.  I'm out.

Im with ya on that about WORK.  However I know several Catholic that have been converted to protestant.  And I also know several that have been converted from Baptist to Charismatic, and thats harder to do than to get a homo to kiss a girl! LOL

I couldn't agree more with you. In my duck boat this fall with my 3 buddies, there was a Remington, Benelli, Winchester and a Mossberg. We also all shot different brands of shells and different shot sizes. We all gave each other crap and bragged that only our's was the best......but in the end, I don't give a sh!t what they shoot.

As long as they come hunting with me, that's all that matters.

Hi WEF, Bob and all,

Likewise I have seen Skip shoot and when he puts his Maxus to his shoulder something is going down with almost every bang.   His skill level is exceptional with the scattergun and rifle.

I am with you WEF, skill there is no substitute. (Just like Porsche, Shanedog!)

Hi NHCrow,

I love reading about your old school 10 gauge work and I think my "modern" 10 gauge Browning Gold is the cat's meow for heavy varminting and geese.  There is no substitute for throw-weigh on tough targets.

WEF, I'd let you shoot the mighty 10 on a hunt, my concern is not whether you would shoot it well, my concern is you wouldn't give it back to me until you were out of shells, because they are fun. biggrin
