A great but unexpected shoot today. We hunted in nearby Maine starting in the early morning with a pair of 10ga's. The spring migration was on and we witnessed many very high north bound birds strung out and showing no interest. As the morning wore on we got all the shooting we could handle and we were not prepared for what is for us high volume shooting. After putting down 64 crows we had expended all our 10ga ammo. We then went back and switched to a pair of 12ga doubles and 18 crows to the pile for total of 82. Lots of ducks and geese moving today too. This is the best winter/spring day shoot we have ever experienced and we have been at it a long time. We also have never killed as many birds in a winter/spring season taking a total of 208 crows since 2/1. Looking forward to the NH season opening this Wednesday.

Great work on those crows. Your cover was excellent and your SXS's are beautiful.
I used to hunt crows with a 10 gauge, but running out of ammo one day on a good shoot several years ago, ended that practice for me. Those big shells, we were using 3.5 inch mags, were hard to carry in quanitity.
I like your "converted" duck decoy, too. I do a number of those conversions using Krylon Fusion Ultra Flat Black paint!
Regards,

You are right Bob, the fat 2 7/8" 10's take a lot of room too. We were pleasantly caught off guard by the intense action yesterday. We have never seen anything close to this type of winter/spring flight in 35 years. It is good news though that there are more of them. Of course had we known it would a be a volume shoot we would have been armed with 12's or 20's and more ammo. Yes it stinks to leave the field having run out of ammo. Frankly it stinks worse on the days a lot of shells make a round trip from truck to field and back.
great job on lkilling some crows boys! I am working for the VT opener but hope to knock a few down on tue in VT. then it will be game in NH for a couple weeks!
