Choke tube brands?
Permalink

Anyone have a favorite brand of aftermarket tubes? I shoot a M-1 Benelli if that helps. I am looking for a good full choke at least but would not be opposed to buying a set if a good one is offered. Do you like the extention type that are ported?

I shoot an M1 also.  I bought a M2 barrel a few months ago off gunbroker (they fit right on an M1) and it didnt have any choke tubes with it.  So I go to bass pro against my better judgment.  The bass pro in east TN sux they never have anything you need.  I find a few chokes but knot many.  On an end cap I see CLEARANCE so I go and look to see what they have.  I found 1 choke for the M2 barrel.  It was a elcheapo undertaker turkey choke made for hevi shot.  It was labeled .695 so I do some quick math and with a bore of .722 thats 27 thousandths or impoved modified.  It shoots tight full choke patterns at 40 yards and it was marked $12.99 and when I got up there to pay for it, it rang up for 9 bucks and change LOL.  That is as good as it gets.  If Im remembering correctly I thought you shot an imp mod choke that patterned full out of your M1.

I have a couple of the Carlson Extended choke tubes for my Remington. I like them a lot. I have the FULL choke in black stainless and the LIGHT MODIFIED in silver stainless. They both extend out past the muzzle by 1" but neither is ported.

They come with a lifetime warranty. Here is their website;

I chose these extended chokes because they protect the muzzle. From Cabelas they run $30-35 each. I am very happy with them, my favorite is the L/M.

 Troy,

Yeah, I though it shot full. I think when I got the results you are referring to I was shooting 1 1/4 in a high brass 6. I did not take the time during the season to do a lot of patterning. Just shot a time or two and went with it. I could have easily made a mistake as the sample was much smaller that what I am doing now that I have time to scrutinize it.

With Nitro 27's in 8's, it is more like 64%  or what is supposed to be in between Imp Cyl and Mod. Mod choke shoots at 61% and Full at 65%. The Imp Cyl is patterning at 47%. I will try 7 1/2's next then some 6's that skeetshooter is loading for me. He is basically copying the Nitro 27 load with the figure 8 wad and inserting 6's instead of 7 1/2's. I am trying them all on paper to see what happens. I am keeping very detailed records and will post all findings once I am done. If all goes well I will have repeatably data to share for distances of 20 - 60 yards.

Yes Mainehunt is correct.  Light modified is between IC and MOD.  Imp mod is between MOD and full choke.

Before you go out and buy just any choke tube cheak out muller chokes.  They are supposed to shoot patterns with a nice outside edge.  Really even patterns is all the talk among the sporting clays crowd that shoots them.  Google muller choke and you cqan find there site, I cant remember the web address.  I have a carlson mod and a trulock IC and they look exactly alike.  The briley tubes look the same also.  Kicks choke tubes have great customer service.  I have delt with them several times.  I dont think its gonna matter alot cause all of them are good quality and I think the shell is more important for the most part.

I shoot a Comp-N-Choke Imp Modified out of my Browning Gold, and one of my shooting partners shoots the same choke out of his BPS............they throw pretty devastating patterns out of both guns....

Big A,

          That Goose Getter is for steel shot so I am guessing that its close to an imp/mod also either way its the SEEDS! I use tight chokes quite often as I love my model 12's and 97's 30" full chokes.

                                   OLD HABITS DIE HARD! ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU CAN SHOOT 'EM!!
