It's been awhile since I visited or posted. Been busy on a sheep farm that wants the coyote population reduced. Wiley things won't give me a clean shot. Seen a pure black one twice. It was huge. The tracks in the snow match those of my friends lab that weights 88 lbs. Paw print as big and as deep in the snow. . . .
Anyway, went out today and had a stellar day. Put 6 GHG decoys on the ground, and 3 Carrylites with the bases cut off in the brush behind me. Tallest limb was 10 ft off the ground. Anyway, I had ducks (mallards and blacks) land with them. Also had a flock of Canada Geese land in them too. A bald eagle came by to check out the dead crows. Maybe he will come back later to eat.
And put 37 birds on the ground with 8 flying funny after the shooting.
For me this was my second best day out. (Best was 75 birds on the ground). Don't have the huge flocks that other areas have....so 37 is a bragging day..
Way to go,!! I've been out the last couple of morning still working the locals over though, not many migrating through. Only have 22 for the two mornings although I was pretty excited this morning when I shot a triple (duck plug is still in).
Good job and fine story Pat. Goes to show that shooting a bunch of crows is not just about shooting a bunch of crows. All the other sights of the day add to the overall experience as well. 37 solo spring crows is a good morning in my neck of the woods as well!
Ted
