Might get to sneak in a Animial Control Hunt on Sat!

I talked to Skeetshooter last night and there is a good chance we will get to crow hunt a farm this weekend. Our season has been closed since Feb and wont open back up till Nov so this is a welcomed opportunity. The farmer just planted a contiguous 1000 acre corn field. They said the crow were trying to light on the planters. biggrin I am liking the chances of whacking some serious crows! All this hinges on a permit from the state but we don't think that will be a problem.

Greg,

I have seen crows pull corn plants out of the ground when the plants are only 1-6" tall. When they're that little, the corn seed is still attached to the roots of the plant, they then eat it.

Absolutely! Problem is, many states, like Maine, do not have an open season during the time that the corn is this height.

Maine,

Like 8 talked about, lots of states will give a depredation permit to a farmer if it effect his pocket.

I heard from Skeet a few minuets ago and the hunt is off. We wouldn't be able to use decoys or calls. Also quite a few other hoops to jump through. We didn't feel we could kill enough to justify the hassle as pass shooting in a 1000 acre field would have been spotty at best. Not sure if it was just e-calls or all calls, but none of us hand call well enough to try it anyway. Oh well, guess that means the clay birds will be back on the endangered list this weekend.
