Chokes for my 12 ga

I have a Mossberg 835 turkey tactical and I have been told it would be better for knocking down crows if I had a different choke. What are you suggestions? Right now it has a turkey choke on it.

Chip would tell you to leave the turkey choke in.

He is probably in the minority tho...

I use a modified all year long.

835 turkey tactical?...does that have a pistol grip? If so, I personally would not want a pistol grip for wing shooting.

Just my thoughts.

Hi WVCK,

I would open it up to IC and use good target loads - Remington or AA 8's or 7.5's...  Chip and BH can point better than me...

Regards,

Well, I wanted the 12 gauge for turkey hunting and it doubles as my crow killing gun.

Soooo,

Is that a yes or no on the pistol grip?

Good luck either way. Whack 'em and stack 'em.

use what you got. I have always wanted to try a pistol grip for shooting crows. I would suggest an Improved Cylinder choke and some cheap loads from walmart. it won't hurt you to burn up some ammo at some clay pigeons either. good luck!

WV   The turkey choke is an awesome thing if you are a seasoned wing shooter and fell very comfortable with the gun you are shooting. Turkey chokes have to be tested til you find a load that patterns well in them. The smaller shot tends to be cramped and splatters. For me its the Gun club loads 7 1/2 3 dram 1200 fps. Still with that load about every 10th or 12th shot will deform and I will have what I call a splatter. I am shooting a Jellyhead. I plan to try an Indian creek and a kicks this fall. My advice is you better open up a little with a tactical gun, Modified to start. Then full, and if you feel ****y enough screw that jellyhead in and make your buddies grin. Once you get good with it they will set up at least 75 yards from you just to get a shot!!!!biggrin Then you can still dump your dead on embiggrin
